AMC has announced that Breaking Bad season 5 will premiere Sunday, July 15 @10pm. Additionally, it was also announced that the final chapter of the series will conclude a year later, beginning summer 2013.

Essentially creating two “final” seasons of Breaking Bad, the divided seasons will each contain 8 episodes. Initially positioned as a “super-sized” final season, AMC’s decision to air Breaking Bad’s final season across two years always felt more like a way to take advantage of fan anticipation – rather than providing an extended conclusion for one of television’s best series.

Concluding the tale of the one-time chemisty teacher turned drug lord, much of television has been wondering what Walter White’s (Bryan Cranston) fate will be.
Television is no longer the walk in the park that is used to be. With many series focused on solving murders (or committing them), the landscape of television has become, well, deadly. But which series are the deadliest?

In a study conducted by Funeralwise.com, which analyzed the deaths in 8 episodes of 40 TV shows, it was revealed that Spartacus: Vengeance and Game of Thrones came out on top, with an average of 25 and 13 dead bodies per episode, respectively.

For those not familiar with either series, those numbers do appear to be extremely high. Though with Spartacus: Vengeance focusing on the gladiator rebellion, and Game of Thrones highlighting the civil war between the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, it’s not surprising to find these two series making the ...

Click to continue reading 10 Deadliest Shows on TV Revealed

AMC has decided to split the fifth and final season of its award-winning meth drama Breaking Bad into two parts, according to star Bryan Cranston.

In a recent interview Cranston announced the news of how the new 16-episode season 5 will be set up; “We’re splitting it. We’re going to shoot the first eight, then take a four-month production break, then the rest will air next year.”

While the network has not officially declared a premiere date for Breaking Bad’s return, some of the show’s actors let it slip via Twitter that we can expect the saga of Walter White to continue in July. In regards to the much-anticipated season opener, Cranston had this to say;

As the 2012 awards season continues toward its big destination at the Academy Awards, we have yet another round of winners to announce as we track those films poised for big wins at the Oscars, as well as the TV shows that are being distinguished for their excellence during the 2011 season. Our latest report details those awards handed out by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) this past Sunday in Los Angeles.

The WGA Awards are notoriously fickle about what they except for awards consideration, so, while The Artist is currently the big frontrunner for Oscars glory, the fact that it was written and directed by a French filmmaker put it out of consideration for a WGA(merica) award. Ironically enough, that left Woody Allen’s dark-horse Oscar contender Midnight in ...

Click to continue reading WGA Award Winners 2012

With production of Breaking Bad season 5 set to begin in early 2012, fans of the series are waiting with anticipation to find out what happens to Walter White when the series comes to an end this year. But has that information already been revealed by Walter White himself, Bryan Cranston?

In two separate interviews, over a year apart, Cranston discusses what he believes to be the only possible conclusion to the series: “Walter White will die.” How will he die? Well that’s more complicated – though Cranston does hint at what may be the driving force behind Walter’s death wish.

Looking back at a video interview with Jeanne Wolf in 2010 (shortly before Breaking Bad season 4 began production), Cranston said that he felt “pretty damn sure” about the ...

Click to continue reading ‘Breaking Bad’ Season 5: Walter White’s Fate Revealed?

Like it or not, come the end of its fifth season, Breaking Bad will be no more. And while series creator Vince Gilligan is determined to bow out gracefully, he is, understandably, somewhat at odds with just how to wrap up Walter White’s epic downward spiral.

Of course, ending such a beloved and critically acclaimed series comes with a notorious bag of challenges that frequently finds creatives at odds with the very audience that adores them. A fact Gilligan is all too aware.

After last Sunday’s shocking episode found the one-time partners in crystal meth cookery putting their disagreements behind them in order to kill the would-be drug kingpin, Gus is going to have to watch his back now more than ever.

Following Walter’s (Bryan Cranston) failed attempt at killing Gus (Giancarlo Esposito) with an improvised car bomb, the pair soon realize that it’s not going to be easy to take down their former boss.

Fortunately, Walter and Jesse (Aaron Paul) aren’t going to have to go up against Gus on their own. Thanks to the ever-helping hand of Saul (Bob Odenkirk), the duo adds a surprise co-conspirator to help in their efforts.

Just what IS the drug that fuels all the madness of 'Breaking Bad'? Our infographic breaks down the facts about meth, and how it has affected the world of Walter White.

Crystal Meth, the controversial drug at the center of the TV series Breaking Bad, has become a popular party drug that in high doses induces euphoria, enhances self-esteem, and increases libido. But with a severe come-down, increased doses required to achieve the same effect, and a long list of dangerous side-effects and health risks, the drug is highly addictive and not something to be trifled with. Today we take a look at the critically acclaimed show Breaking Bad, the role of Meth in the show, and in America.

Fans of Breaking Bad know how dark and crazy the world of Walter White (Bryan Cranston) gets. As a chemistry teacher-turned-meth chef extraordinaire, we’ve seen Walter and his addict partner, Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), nearly lose life, limb, and sanity in their quest to make a fortune in the world of ...

Click to continue reading ‘Breaking Bad’ and Meth in America

AMC announced the renewal of its acclaimed series Breaking Bad this weekend, adding that the 5th season would be its last. Throughout its run, the show has garnered critical and viewer acclaim, and has been instrumental in AMC’s rise in the original programming scene.

Breaking Bad‘s fifth season will consist of 16 episodes – three more than we saw in seasons 2 – 4 (season 1 was only 7 episodes) . The extended order should give the writers some extra room to wrap up the series. The final episodes will begin airing in mid-2012.

Just three episodes into its fourth season and trouble may be brewing for AMC’s critical darling Breaking Bad. According to recent reports, the network and the show’s production company, Sony Pictures Television, have begun talks regarding the fifth (and likely final) season of the show – and those talks have hit something of a wall.

The issue stems from AMC once more looking to cut costs. In the case of Breaking Bad, that would mean a season consisting of only 6-8 episodes – rather than the typical 12-13 the series has had in past seasons.

Naturally, series creator Vince Gilligan is none too happy at the prospect of concluding his crime opus with only half the normal episodes at his disposal, and is considering jumping ...

Click to continue reading Could ‘Breaking Bad’ Leave AMC For Season 5?

Breaking Bad is one TV series that has steadily upped its game in subsequent seasons. This includes season 3, in which we saw former high school chemistry teacher-turned-drug-manufacturer Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and his recovering addict “partner” Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) learn all about the perils that go with making it big in the drug game.

Breaking Bad season 4 arrives with the added burden of having to keep up the frantic momentum of last season’s nail-biting cliffhanger, and the premiere episode, “Box Cutter”, not only did that – it kicked things up to a whole new level of tension and darkness. The premiere also gave us one particular scene that is likely to go down in the pantheon of nightmare-inducing TV moments.

After a miserably long hiatus, anticipation for season 4 of AMC’s Breaking Bad has hit an all-time high. Thankfully, the wait is almost over. In just over two weeks, the evolution of Walter White will take its next astonishing step.

Viewers have watched as three-time Emmy Award-winner Bryan Cranston has taken the once-nerdy, broke, cancer-stricken Walter White and transformed him into a burgeoning meth kingpin. And now, for what is rumored to be the penultimate season of the show, Walter White may actually be taking things down an even darker path.

In a short featurette, Cranston and the cast of Breaking Bad discuss what lies ahead for season 4 and just how far Walt is willing to go to secure his family’s future.
As we edge ever closer to the biggest movie award ceremony around, the Oscars, we have another set of nominations to mull over: The 37th Annual Saturn Awards.

While the Oscars, Golden Globes and the BAFTAs tend to recognize the more “serious” films (some would say in a way that is out of touch), award ceremonies like the Saturn Awards nominate films that average moviegoers would likely champion as their favorites of the year – not to mention the ceremony also recognizes the best TV shows and DVD release the year had to offer.

Last year the Saturn Awards were dominated by a little film called Avatar (you may have heard of it), but as you’ll see below fan favorite Inception dominates things this year with a whopping nine nominations, while other popular films ...

Click to continue reading Inception Leads 2011 Saturn Award Nominees

For 68 years, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has been celebrating their favorites in film and television with the Golden Globe Awards.

Once again, the multifaceted and generally hilarious Ricky Gervais will be serving as host of tonight’s gala. While those in attendance will be filled with anticipation about whether or not they will take home the award in their chosen category, viewers at home will be anxiously waiting to see how far Gervais will push the comedic envelope with his monologue and numerous ad-libs throughout the night.

With 25 separate categories having to fit within tonight’s given time slot, something tells me that Gervais will be moving things along at a swift pace – all while sipping from his iconic glass a beer that always remains not-so-hidden beneath his podium.

The Screen Actors Guild announced nominations for the 17th annual SAG Awards this morning.

The nominees reaffirmed many of the front-runners for possible Academy Award nominations.

In the leading female actor category, Natalie Portman earned a rightful nomination for her work in Black Swan, but she’ll be running against stiff competition from Nicole Kidman in Rabbit Hole, along with many other notable actresses. In the leading male actor category, Jeff Bridges was recognized for his take on the iconic character of Rooster Cogburn in True Grit, but he’ll face strong competition from young actors Jesse Eisenberg in The Social Network and James Franco in 127 Hours.

Of the nominated films, David O. Russel’s The Fighter led the way with four total nominations.
The American Film Institute announced its list of the Top 10 movies of 2010 today, giving film fans a likely glimpse at many of the movies in contention for the Best Picture Oscar at this year’s Academy Awards.

AFI’s Top 10 films represent a wide range of styles, from the brainy big budget action film Inception and the animated Toy Story 3 to the low-budget indie films Winter’s Bone and The Kids Are All Right.

Several of the films on the list, including True Grit and The Fighter, have yet to make nationwide releases, but are already racking up major points with critics. Our own Kofi Outlaw gave The Fighter a perfect five star review.

Check below for the full list of the AFI’s Top 10 films for 2010, as well as a video ...

Click to continue reading AFI Lists Top 10 Movies and TV Programs of 2010
