Marvel's 'X-Men' and 'Blade' franchises are getting the anime treatment for the Japanese market but will these Marvel heroes get new cartoons in other markets?

Two major Marvel franchises that both suffered from recent short-lived TV series are moving to Japan. While X-Men lives on with Twentieth Century Fox’s growing film franchise, Blade is suffering from its lead movie star serving prison time. Both however, are preparing for an introduction in Japan as new anime programs.

Animax, a division of Sony dedicated to anime TV shows, is already hitting it big with Iron Man and Wolverine series and is now looking to add two more with Blade and X-Men, both of which were announced at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year. The logos for each series were just released.

The Iron Man and Wolverine programs both spawned out of the successes of the Iron Man and X-Men Origins: Wolverine feature films.
Wesley Snipes reveals that he'd be up for starring in Blade 4 if the script was right. What does this mean for the spin-offs reported on last year?

In the age of reboots, remakes and an insurmountable number of sequels to established franchises, we may yet have another.

According to the Arrow in the Head section of JoBlo, Wesley Snipes is interested in doing Blade 4 and I want him to do it. Underworld is getting a fourth movie, the Twilight Saga is getting two fourth movies, why not the most bad-ass (half) vampire as well?

Snipes specified that he was interested but would only do it if the script was right. What that translates to, is no more side-kick characters like the Nightstalkers of Blade: Trinity, played by Ryan Reynolds and Jessica Biel. That was a problem behind-the-scenes as they stole some of the precious spotlight away from the title character of the film, at least, according to ...

Click to continue reading Wesley Snipes In For Blade 4 If Script is Right

Happy Halloween everyone! If you’re a regular Screen Rant reader you’ll have noticed (and hopefully read) our Halloween lead-up series called “Horror Plus.” If not, just so you know it’s a feature which sets out to showcase one film that combines horror with another genre. Each instalment will basically serve as a review of the film at hand, explaining why it’s such a good example of genre merging.

So far we’ve had Horror Plus Comedy: Shaun of the Dead, Horror Plus Sci-fi: Alien, Horror Plus Thriller: 28 Days Later and Horror Plus Crime: Se7en. And finally we come to our final installment which is Horror Plus Action.

So which film have we chosen which merges both the genres of horror and action so well? After much deliberation I decided to go with Stephen ...

Click to continue reading Horror Plus Action: Blade

Bloodthirsty creatures of the night are stalking the streets of Gotham City. They are the undead, and they hunger for the blood of Gotham’s citizens. As one savage killing leads to another, Gotham’s Dark Knight, Batman, takes to the moonlit streets to track down the bloodsucking killers before Gotham is overrun by legions of the undead.

However, Batman is not the only one on the case – for where there are vampires there is Blade, the vampire hunter hellbent on his mission to rid the world of nightstalkers forever. But when The Day Walker clashes with The Dark Knight, can the two heroes put aside their differences to save Gotham from the vampire hordes?

That very question is the heart of the new upcoming superhero crossover film, The Dark Knight vs. Blade, and we here at Screen ...

Click to continue reading SR Pick [Video]: The Dark Knight vs. Blade Trailer

Just over a month ago we talked about the future of the Blade franchise and at the time, it seemed that Stephen Dorff may help guide the series in a different direction with a trilogy of new movies set before the events of the first Blade.

It of course would star Dorff as the bad-ass vampire, Deacon Frost. Stephen Norrington, director of the first Blade, said that he’d be back to work on these prequels after he’s done working on the remake of The Crow and he confirmed that it would be Frost’s story but that it would be linked heavily with the existing movies.

Today we have some more tidbits about the next Blade film from another integral man behind the trilogy, David Goyer.

MTV News spoke with David Goyer, writer of ...

Click to continue reading David Goyer Talks Blade 4

1998’s Wesley Snipes starrer, Blade, was one of my favorite action flicks of the time as a young teen. It introduced bullet time before the first Matrix came out, it helped kick-off what would eventually become a vampire craze and most importantly, it helped set up Marvel as a viable film franchise.

Despite the film’s R-rating and weak reviews, it and its successors each managed to bank around $150 million each in worldwide box office earnings.

Unfortunately, the trilogy was rounded off with a movie that took screen time away from the lead, was riddled with behind-the-scenes problems, and was poorly received by critics and many moviegoers making disappointing box-office numbers considering its increased budget relative to the first two films.

For me however, I dug the third movie and liked the villainous Dracula played ...

Click to continue reading Blade Franchise To Continue Through Spinoffs?
