'Black Death' could've been an entertaining B-movie romp if it didn't insist on taking itself so seriously, while dumping heavy-handed theological themes onto the audience.

Screen Rant’s Kofi Outlaw Reviews Black Death

There’s nothing wrong with a genre B-movie that knows exactly what it is. The productions values may be low-budget, the script may be filled with cringe-worthy dialogue and cliched tropes – you may even find big-name actors hamming it up for the sake of a paycheck (like Ben Affleck in the movie Paycheck) – but when all is said and done, B-movies can be fun guilty pleasures to watch.

One would look at the premise of Black Death and expect to see a B-movie Medieval epic that offered some serious gore and hokey supernatural horror tropes. Sadly, what we get instead is a B-movie that doesn’t seem to know its own limitations, instead trying to present itself as something deeper and more ...

Click to continue reading Black Death Review

We’ve got 18 new posters for 14 different films, including a special 'Thor' poster and a couple of top-notch fan-made posters for 'The Dark Knight Rises' and 'TRON: Legacy.'

Everybody loves to look at movie posters (or one-sheets as they are sometimes called in the movie industry) and a well-crafted poster can make or break the buzz for an upcoming film.

Sometimes the poster predominantly features one character from the film or perhaps it depicts the story or plot in an artsy and unique way. Regardless of which direction the marketing department for a film chooses, a poster should either be intriguing, sexy, funny or cool – and it can’t hurt to combine all four.

Today we have wide selection of movie posters from a very diverse selection of films – excellent fan-made art for movies yet to begin filming, horror films with a sexy twist, summer blockbusters, and even a campy SyFy Channel film. No matter what your taste in movie posters may be, ...

Click to continue reading Movie Poster Roundup: Paul, Thor, Hobo with a Shotgun, and More

In a time when remakes, reboots and sequels reign supreme can 'Black Death' fill up theaters using an original idea? Journey to hell in the trailer and judge for yourself.

Last year, we heard about three independent movies that had action fans excited – The Tournament, Solomon Kane and Black Death.

The Tournament, while receiving positive festival reviews, only managed to score a DVD distribution deal. Solomon Kane also received high marks at the Toronto International Film Festival and San Diego Comic Con in 2009, which did lead to a distribution deal with Lionsgate, but the film hasn’t managed to score a U.S. theatrical release as of yet.

The last hope of watching one of these independent action films at a theater in the States lies with the medieval period piece Black Death. In some fantastic news, Magnet Films has recently announced it would be picking up the film for U.S. release in early 2011.

If you aren’t familiar with Black Death then ...

Click to continue reading ‘Black Death’ Trailer & Gallery

With all of the remakes, reboots and absurd movie ideas spewing forth from Hollywood lately, it’s nice to see there are still some people having original thoughts. Here’s an idea for a story coming out of the UK and Germany: a mystery/thriller about the plague during medieval times. From Egoli Tossell Film comes the movie Black Death and it stars none other Sean “Boromir” Bean.

Black Death is set during medieval England at a time when the black plague was ravishing everyone. Ulric (Sean Bean) heads up a group of knights and journeys into the marshes lead by a young monk, Osmund, to discover why one village doesn’t seem to be affected by the wretched disease. What they find is a beautiful necromancer (one who brings back the dead) called Langvia; but when she reveals ...

Click to continue reading Original Movie Alert: Sean Bean Battles ‘Black Death’
