The $6 Million Dud: Bionic Woman’s Ratings Plunge

The $6 Million Dud: Bionic Woman's Ratings Plunge

Vic didn’t like Bionic Woman, and to be honest, I keep missing it, due to work. You can catch reruns of the show on the Sci Fi Channel, Friday nights, I believe, at 7 PM EST. Anyway, overnight ratings have come back and the Bionic Woman has taken a 30% plunge since last week. Could this heavily hyped NBC show be the first casualty of the 2007-08 season?

Personally, I think they should have placed the show as the follow-up to the immensely popular Heroes. I feel that this would have benefited the show about a woman who gains powerful, robotic legs, arm, eye and ear following an accident. As it is, Journeyman is enjoying the post-Heroes time slot.

Bionic Woman Premiere: Typical Network Sci Fi Crap

Bionic Woman Premiere: Typical Network Sci Fi Crap

It’s funny… just yesterday I wrote that I might be in danger of being accused of writing nothing but good reviews about the season premieres on TV this week. Just in time to save me, the Bionic Woman series premiere aired tonight.

The episode opens with a bunch of dead and bloodied bodies strewn about the corrider of some apparently underground research facility. There is an assault/SWAT team that comes across the bodies and finds a woman hunched over in a hospital gown huddled at the end of a room. She has killed everyone but says that it’s out of her control. The leader promptly tells her he loves her… and puts a bullet in her. Ah, young love.

The show cuts to three years later, and we then meet our pre-bionic heroine Jamie Sommers (Michelle Ryan) tending bar. She comes home to a teenage girl that it’s obvious she cares about (her sister, who is in her care) but who has a rebellious streak a mile wide. Jamie tends bar by night and goes to college by day, where we meet one of her professors who teaches some sort of bio-tech class at the school and is also her boyfriend.

Fall 2007 Shows Starting Up This Week

The 2007 Fall television season has started and for those of you who are Tivo-less and need to know when shows are starting, there are some biggies coming up next week. I won’t be covering them all, because I already watch too much TV and some just don’t interest me, but here are the ones that I think may be of interest to Screen Rant readers:

Michelle Ryan Preps to be Bionic

Michelle Ryan Preps to be Bionic

Michelle Ryan stars as Jaime Sommers in the upcoming series Bionic Woman, on NBC. She says she feels lucky to be given this opportunity, and that she’s doing a lot of preparation.

Hmm, does the fact that no known US actors jumping on the role worry anyone? Personally, I’m looking forward to the show, and hopefully, they pull it off, and appeal to the broad audience that dictates success or failure. I was a bionic fan from day one with the $6mil guy, and I wasn’t too thrilled about a bionic woman being added to the fray, but it is what it was.
