Word is circling that actress Anne Hathaway may be onboard to star in the remake of the 1968 cult film 'Barbarella', which starred Jane Fonda as an interstellar bombshell.

Anne Hathaway, like Natalie Portman, seems to be connected to virtually every other upcoming Hollywood production that features a prominent female protagonist. Now this year’s Oscar co-host is rumored to be onboard for the long-gestating remake of the cult campfest, Barbarella.

Assuming there is even an inkling of truth to this rumor, Hathaway would undoubtedly tackle the role of the exquisite 41st century space agent Barbarella – a role made famous by former anti-war activist-turned aerobics instructor/writer/actress Jane Fonda back in 1968.

News of Hathaway’s involvement with the Barbarella remake should definitely be taken with a healthy dose of salt, since even the source of the rumor, Pajiba, describes her as being “attached” to the project, which is currently without a director. Robert Rodriguez and actress Rose McGowan were fresh off their on and off-set Grindhouse collaboration ...

Click to continue reading Is Anne Hathaway The New Barbarella?

You just can’t keep a good space girl down. First, the remake of Jane Fonda’s 1968 campfest Barbarella rises from the ashes of Robert Rodriguez’s now-defunct $70 million Heavy Metal-meets-Star Wars vision; then the newly resurrected Barbarella scores a fairly good director in the form of Robert Luketic (Legally Blonde, 21). Now comes word that Barbarella has snagged a writer named…Joe Gazzam?

Never heard of him? Me either. And, according to his (brief) IMDB resume, neither has anyone…yet. In an effort to answer the question, Who is Joe Gazzam? I went searching on the Interweb and turned up the following info from the website Film Industry Bloggers:

Joe Gazzam recently sold his first two scripts, entitled “Scared Straight” and “Straight & Narrow”. He’s currently completing an assignment for Sony to write the film ...

Click to continue reading Barbarella Remake Gets a Writer

We reported last month that Robert Rodriguez’s remake of Barbarella was dead. The reason, stated by Rodriguez himself, was that the German company that was putting up the whopping $70 million for the movie wanted him to shoot the film in Germany, which meant him spending a long time away from his kids. Rodriguez said he just couldn’t do that, and decided to move onto other things.

However, those who still want a Barbarella remake, even without Rodriguez at the helm, need not fret: It looks like a new director is being eyed for the project.

Robert Luketic (Legally Blonde, 21) is reportedly working with producer Dino De Laurentiis’ company (who owns the rights to the original property) to develop Barbarella at a studio other than the German one Rodriguez turned down, with ...

Click to continue reading Barbarella Remake Has A New Director?

Robert Rodriguez is one of those directors who is going to be exceptionally busy with the amount of stuff he has coming up. He has his first ever venture into the sci-fi genre with a film called Nerverackers due out next year, he has his full-length version of Machete in development, and then there’s his reboot of the Predator franchise retitled Predators (although he’s not actually directing it, he’ll still be heavily involved). If he’s to satisfy fan demand, he’ll also get going with the sequel to Sin City as well, even though he’s said it’ll be a long way away.

Out with all of those, another project that Rodriguez has said he’ll bring to us is a remake (or update, or new adaptation, or whatever you wanna’ call it…) of Barbarella, which ...

Click to continue reading Robert Rodriguez’ $70 Million ‘Barbarella’ Movie Is Dead
