Michael Bay’s Next Film To Be His ‘Pulp Fiction’; Bad Boys 3 Coming

Michael Bay’s most recent film – a little known independent project called Transformers: Dark of the Moon – had the biggest opening day box office all year (on a Tuesday, no less) and is well on its way to a massive opening weekend, too.

Now the question is: What’s next for Michael Bay? After six years of eating, breathing, and directing Transformers films, what’s to be the tenth entry in Bay’s burgeoning filmography? According to the man himself, it’s Pain & Gain, a dark comedy in the vein of Pulp Fiction that he originally planned to work on before returning for Transformers 3.

Jerry Bruckheimer Confirms Bad Boys 3 Development

Back in August of last year we got word that Bad Boys 3 was on the way, the threequel to the successful Michael Bay action franchise. Columbia Pictures even hired a screenwriter in the form of Peter Craig (Cowboy Bebop), and the hope was to reunite stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence with director Michael Bay and producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

More recently, Lawrence told MTV that Bad Boys 3 was “real realistic” and that he’d even met with Bay, who was apparently on-board too. But who would know more about these things than the mega-producer, Jerry Bruckheimer? Not many, I’d expect. And now he has confirmed that Bad Boys 3 is at least in the works.

Likelihood of Bad Boys 3 Very Real

It’s been 7 years since Bad Boys 2 and 15 since the original Bad Boys. After such long waits in between installments, we may soon get Bad Boys 3.

According to Martin Lawrence in an interview with MTV News, the possibility of reuniting with Will Smith and bringing action-comedy partners Detective Mike Lowrey and Detective Marcus Burnett back to the big screen is very realistic. Even director Michael Bay said he’s in as well.

“It’s real realistic… We’ve talked about ‘Bad Boys 3.’ ”

“Any time you can get Big Willie to come out and talk about doing a third installment of a hot movie like ‘Bad Boys,’ you have to take notice… I met with Michael Bay, and he said he’s onboard too ...

Bay Holds Cybertronian Meeting to Discuss Transformers 3

I was a defender of the first Transformers. While the bad parts really made watching the movie difficult the first time, upon re-watching it, I really dug a lot of it.

Unfortunately, with the sequel that I hoped would eliminate the bad parts and improve on the good… it did mostly the opposite and we got stuck with a movie that although got very bad reviews across the board, it of course banked $830 million worldwide. Wait until Revenge of the Fallen Blu-ray and DVDs hit the shelves next month. Add that with the insane merchandising and there’s no other movie that can bank more in total.

So, that means Transformers 3 is a sure-fire thing no matter what, the only question is when.

Bad Boys 3 On The Way

With Michael Bay off making giant robot movies, Will Smith solidifying himself as one of the most bankable movie stars on Earth, and Martin Lawrence, well… still acting, it would be understandable if there was never a third installment in the Bad Boys series. However, by way of The Hollywood Reporter, comes news that not only has Columbia started to develop a Bad Boys 3 but has already signed a screenwriter to it.

Columbia has hired Peter Craig to write the Bad Boys 3 script – Craig doesn’t have any completed screenplays out there yet (he has three in development, including Cowboy Bebop), but according to Wikipedia he’s a published author of “darkly comic novels of imploding father-son relationships.” The hope is to have a script which will reunite director Michael Bay, producer Jerry ...
