Screen Rant owner Vic Holtreman originally founded this site with the intention of providing readers with a middle-ground/average person perspective on movie news and reviews – hence our old mantra “movie and TV news without the sugar coating.” While the site has certainly evolved – we now cover a wider range of genres and provide readers with a variety of diverse “voices” – our willingness to champion both entertaining and/or artistic movies (at least on a case by case basis) hasn’t changed.

Which is why we (Vic and myself) jumped at the chance to participate in Film School Reject‘s recent article the “10 Greatest Movies of All Time (According to the Internet).” Now the results are in.

The American car: few things define an individual better than the car they drive and nothing better defines a movie or TV series than the car the lead character drives. For years people from all walks of life were known by their cars and that recognition spilled over into TV shows and movies in a big way.

Throughout the 60s, 70s and 80s cars played a big part in just about every TV series and film – to the point that audiences would see the car and immediately associate it with a particular (entertainment) brand. Sometimes the car was just an iconic mode of transportation meant to show the societal class of the person driving it – like Fred Sanford’s beat up 1951 Ford truck in Sanford & Son, Colt Seavers’ early 1980s model GMC pickup ...

Click to continue reading 25 Most Iconic Cars From TV & Movies

2010 was a fantastic year in home video releases. Some of the most revered classics finally made their way to the Blu-ray format, while other titles were given a more in-depth re-release. Without question, 2010 was proof that Blu-ray is here to stay.

These Blu-rays make our list for a variety of reasons; Some are incomprehensibly comprehensive collections like Lost: The Complete Collection and The Alien Anthology. Others are beautifully remastered classics like Psycho and The Exorcist.
In honor of the 25th anniversary of the 'Back To The Future' trilogy, we take a look back at some of the highlights of Michael J. Fox's expansive career, and celebrate 'the power of love.'

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of Back To The Future, the entire trilogy was re-released on a special edition Blu-ray DVD this week. In addition, AMC theatres held select screenings of the original film on 158 screens in over 40 cities.

Fans of Back To The Future came out to celebrate and revisit the iconic characters created in the films: Chistopher Lloyd as the lovable mad scientist, Doc Brown; Crispin Glover as the quintessential geek-hero, George McFly; Thomas F. Wilson as the equally quintessential bully-who-gets-his, Biff Tannen; Lea Thompson as Marty’s (sometimes disturbingly) super-sexy mom, Lorraine; and of course, Michael J. Fox as the young, old and young again, Marty McFly.

Michael J Fox’s career spans nearly 40 years and includes some of the most memorably charming characters ever to be captured on celluloid (well, ...

Click to continue reading The Many Faces Of Michael J.
Every Back to the Future fan worth his or her weight in…uh, Back to the Future knowledge knows that Michael J. Fox was not the first actor cast in the role of teenage rascal Marty McFly. Due to a scheduling conflict—Fox was in Family Ties at the time—actor Eric Stoltz was hired instead, and it took five whole weeks of shooting to realize what a mistake that was.

After some schedule finagling, Michael J. Fox was hired for real (he filmed Family Ties during the day and Back to the Future at night) and the entire Eric Stoltz fiasco was nothing but a bad dream and a story spread by word of mouth to fans of the time-traveling film series.
This weekend marks the release of Toy Story 3, which is already getting rave reviews as a brilliant third installment to a near-flawless franchise. But when you look back at the handful of threequels in movie history, the memories are not quite as bright.

From Batman Forever to Spider-Man 3, there are far more awful third installments of beloved movie franchises than great ones. So, in honor of the hard work from the good folks at Disney/Pixar, we are going in a different direction… Rather than relish in the horrendous examples of failed threequels, we are going to present our 10 favorite third installments of popular franchises.

Some examples are part of a grand saga, while others are the closing chapter of an unforgettable tale. Either way, ...

Click to continue reading The 10 Best Movie Threequels of All Time

Check out these cool collection of retro-style posters from graphic designer Brandon Schaefer.

I really envy good graphic designers. Sure, I’ve tinkered with Photoshop in my time, but with the exception of mastering the clone stamp tool, I’ve never really had a knack for putting together cool pieces of design. Maybe that’s why I spend so much time here on Screen Rant highlighting cool alternative movie posters (like these Star Wars travel posters or these minimalist Quentin Tarantino posters).

Recently, the folks at /Film tipped us off to some more alternative movie posters by graphic designer Brandon Schaefer. Unlike the other poster sets we have previously highlighted here at Screen Rant, Schaeffer’s work does not follow any specific theme except for the fact that they’re all well-known films. Spanning movies both old (Jaws) and new (The Dark Knight), Schaefer’s work combines a retro minimalist flair with a strong attention ...

Click to continue reading SR Pick: Cool Retro Movie Posters from Brandon Schaefer

I’ve been waiting 21 years for a sequel to Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

At a recent red carpet event, which seems to happen everyday in Hollywood, MTV Movies editor Josh Horowitz asked Zemeckis, who has been focusing on 3D performance-capture movies of late (including the upcoming A Christmas Carol), about using the technology to revisit older movies. He was alluding to possibly a fourth Back to the Future movie. Zemeckis’ answer surprised Horowitz:

“I’ll tell you what is buzzing around in my head now that we have the ability—the digital tools, performance capture—I’m starting to think about Roger Rabbit”

Very unexpected answer, but not unwelcome! I remember seeing ...

Click to continue reading Robert Zemeckis Wants Roger Rabbit To Return
