2012 Razzie Nominations: Adam Sandler & ‘Transformers 3′ Lead the Pack

Just in time for the 84th Academy Awards ceremony, nominees have been announced for the 32nd Annual Razzie Awards. “Winners” of the awards (meant to (dis-) honor the “Worst Achievements in Film” during 2011) will be accordingly announced this year on (when else?) April Fools’ Day.

Leading the pack of 2012 Razzie contenders are some usual suspects, in the form of Michael Bay’s Transformers franchise (thanks to Transformers: Dark of the Moon) and Adam Sandler in a record-breaking nomination run, due to his involvement with such critically-ravaged titles as Just Go with It, Jack and Jill, and Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star.

Sandler has managed to smash Eddie Murphy’s record for most Razzie nods in a single year (the latter received 5 back in 2007) by stacking up a whopping 11 nominations in 2012. That’s due ...

DVD/Blu-ray Breakdown: July 12, 2011

Some great titles hit DVD and Blu-ray this week. Nearly every genre is accounted for, which should leave at least one solid pick to add to your collection.

Every once in a while, a studio releases one of their more popular films on home video later in the week. This week, Rango and Arthur both hit shelves on Friday. But the rest of the notable titles will release on Tuesday as usual, including The Lincoln Lawyer, Insidious, Entourage and Robot Chicken.

Two other intriguing films that few got the chance to see in theaters will also be available on both DVD and Blu-ray – Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives and Miral.

This week:

The box office travels to Rio, while we Scream again; Russell Brand sings Rock of Ages; Pesci gets Gotti; The Dark Tower gets a new writer; Galifianakis may have a hangover but he won’t R.I.P; Franco attends Jump Street – but will Johnny Depp? Trumbull may have Silent Running but he’ll be moving at 60 fps and Hallelujah – there’s finally a Jeff Buckley biopic.

Box Office

Rio was the box office champion over the weekend after grossing an estimated $40 million. The animated film which features the vocal talents of Anne Hathaway, Jesse Eisenberg, Tracy Morgan, will.i.am, Jamie Foxx and George Lopez surpassed predictions to again show that animated films are big at the box office. This could be the start of a new animated franchise for 20th Century Fox, giving the studio a steady income for the next few years.

Weekend Movie News Wrap Up: April 10th, 2011

This week:

Movie fans gets Branded as Hop and Arthur top the box office; Anna Karenina turns into Atonement 2; Keanu Reeves is a Man of Tai Chi; Sofia Vergara is a Stooge and Wahlberg plays Bait and Switch.

Box Office

The original Arthur was caught between the moon and New York City, but the remake seems to be caught between Hop and Hanna.

You could say that Russell Brand is the real winner this weekend, considering that he has Hop at number one, and Arthur at two, however it looks like the British star may not get another chance to headline another live action film – at least not for a while due to Arthur’s lackluster debut. Hop brought in another $21.7 million for a $68.2 million total, while Arthur had a flaccid $12.6 million debut. It looks like the profit margin for Arthur may be on the rocks.

Russell Brand’s ‘Arthur’ Trailer Arrives in a Batmobile

British comedian Russell Brand became a break-out name with his charming performance as the lovable, but totally bonkers, rockstar Aldous Snow in the Judd Apatow/Nicholas Stoller comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Brand is practically a household name, as a result of his irreverent persona, high-profile relationship, as well as starring roles in the Sarah Marshall spin-off Get Him to the Greek, The Tempest, and the upcoming Arthur remake. Warner Bros. and Summit Entertainment have released the latest trailer for Arthur – which features a cameo appearance by the Batman Forever Batmobile.

Weekend Movie News Wrap Up: March 1st, 2009

This week:

Madea is the champ at the box office; Jim Carrey and Jake Gyllenhaal sing; Zorro meets Woody; Original Films remakes Total Recall and Arthur will have something to say soon.

Box Office

Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes To Jail stayed locked up in the top spot with an estimated weekend take of $16 million.

Jonas Brothers: 3-D Concert Experience underperformed with an estimated weekend take of about $12.5 million. Not bad for a film showing on only 1, 271 screens, but the film was expected to gross double that!

Slumdog Millionaire rides the train of Oscar success and manages another $12 million for a $115 million total. Expect Danny Boyle to do whatever he pleases for his next film.

Liam Neeson’s Taken continues to impress with another $9 million in the bank. So far Taken has…er… taken over $100 million.

At Screen Rant we’ve pretty much covered every single remake that Hollywood has been planning. It’s not easy but we’ve done our best to keep up. However, this week we almost had “Remake Meltdown” (a dangerous and lethal condition) when we learned that the movie bosses in the City of Angels had another batch of 1980s classics ready to be ruined.
