The loyal Arrested Development fanbase erupted today after creator Mitchell Hurwitz announced that plans were in motion for a fourth season of the iconic show, leading into the long-delayed movie. Now we know that both Showtime and Netflix are vying to broadcast the new episodes, currently expected to air sometime in 2013.

Hurwitz and the entire main cast of Arrested Development were at The New Yorker Film Festival in Manhattan to announce the plans. All the main cast members (Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, David Cross, Portia de Rossi, Tony Hale, Alia Shawkat, Jeffrey Tambor, and Jessica Walter) will be returning for the fourth season, which will consist of ten episodes. Each episode will focus on a specific character.

The much-anticipated 'Arrested Development' movie may finally have its (very meta) plot out in the open. It's a rumor right now, but an official announcement may not be far behind.

The anxious fans of Arrested Development might get their wish for a feature-length movie soon. Yes, we’ve known for a while now that a movie is in the works – but it’s had a rocky history, and until it actually starts production, fans have remained skeptical. However, a recent revelation from Mitch Hurwitz indicated the movie is indeed on its way.

Now, a source of ours who recently spent time with one of the show’s stars says she knows the plot. While we remain as skeptical as everyone else, the pieces are starting to come together – and they make a lot of sense.

In addition to the early plot details, we have been told this storyline will be announced within the next few weeks.
After years of speculation and disappointment, Mitch Hurwitz has confirmed that he is working on the 'Arrested Development' film - with the intention of shooting (and possibly releasing) the film this year.

After charming its way into America’s jaded hearts with three years of classic comedic television, Arrested Development was sent to the place where all shows too good for television go: Cancellation-town. Ever since then (five years and counting), there has been relentless talk of a feature film follow-up, but little else.

But then, two days ago, Peter Serafinowicz, who co-starred in Mitch Hurwitz’s now-canceled Running Wilde, said that Hurwitz was busy writing the Arrested Development screenplay with plans to put him in it.

Arrested Development creator Hurwitz himself said he not only wants the movie to be filmed this year, but also released this year.

Serafinowicz, who appeared in Shaun of the Dead, spoke to Split Sider ...

Click to continue reading Mitch Hurwitz Says ‘Arrested Development’ Movie Finally Happening This Year

Arrested Development was, in this Screen Rant writer’s opinion, a masterpiece of television art and the best series of the last decade, if not longer. Taking its conceptual cues from Wes Anderson’s The Royal Tenenbaums, it infused weird but wonderful characters with the best comedic writing since, well, the beginning of time.

After being ruthlessly cancelled in its third season, rumors of an Arrested Development film have continually run rampant, spread primarily by the cast and crew themselves. Almost five years and five hundred empty promises later, Arrested Development fans are still waiting. Now, according to creator Mitch Hurwitz, we might be waiting even longer…that is, if people don’t start watching his new show, Running Wilde.

It seems that the Arrested Development movie project has become the monster that just won’t go away. Despite previous rumors that the project was deader than a doornail, the film adaptation is proving more difficult to kill than Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees combined.

Hurwitz also mentioned that he and Arrested Development co-executive producer Jim Vallely had begun working on a screenplay for the adaptation and that it was “our absolute next priority” once the pair had Running Wilde up and going (no pun intended).

For years now, fans of Arrested Development (another acclaimed tragedy of the Fox programming slaughterhouse) have been hoping to see the Bluth family make a comeback on the big screen.

Just sticking to 2010, we’ve heard word of the Arrested Development movie possibly starting to shoot…and then that the film had (yet again) been delayed. Now comedian David Cross – who played Bluth family in-law Tobias Fünke – is ending speculation and calling the film dead in the water (see what I did there?).

Cross spoke to TV Squad recently, and had this to say about the Arrested Development movie:

“(I)t’s not going to happen…Way too much time it’s been (since the show ended)…I mean, there’s so many people involved. Everyone’s doing their own thing, you know. And everybody’s aged. It’s just ...

Click to continue reading Arrested Development Movie Dead…Again

Word going round town is that the 'Arrested Development' movie is once again being delayed, despite numerous reports that it would get underway this year. So why the delay this time?

The push for an Arrested Development movie is beginning to feel a bit like one of Gob Bluth’s magic tricks -I’m sorry, “illusions.” It starts off promising, dazzles fans of the series for a brief moment…and then the bottom falls out.

A few months back, the Arrested Development movie appeared to be gaining momentum: Mitchell Hurtwitz, the show’s creator, was reportedly busy working on the script and Will Arnett went on-record claiming the movie would be made this year.

Now we’re hearing reports that the project has been pushed back…yet again.

Speaking with MTV, Jason Bateman, who played Michael Bluth in the TV series, restated the tentative schedule for the film: “Nothing new. We’re hoping for the end of the year.”

However, the actor went on to clarify one factor in the delay: Hurtwitz has a new sitcom ...

Click to continue reading Arrested Development Movie Delayed… Again

Coming Soon caught up with Arrested Development star Will Arnett while covering the press junkett for that Kirsten Bell flick When In Rome and wisely probed the actor (no, not in THAT way) about what all is going on with the Arrested Development movie.

Arnett’s response? The cameras should (hopefully) start rolling sometime this year.

The show is going on four years having been off the air – but thanks to sites like Hulu, TV stations like G4 (plays the show from start to finish to start again) and great deals from Amazon (I got the whole series for $30 not a month ago!), Arrested Development fandom just keeps on growing.

Anyway, here’s what Arnett had to say:

We are working on the movie right now, yeah… We don’t have a completed script yet, but it’s forthcoming and ...

Click to continue reading Arrested Development to (Finally) Start Filming This Year?

This past weekend the creator of Arrested Develoment, Mitchell Hurtwitz, attended the Austin Film Festival and was the focal point of two panels, “The Art of Storytelling” and a “Conversation With Mitchell Hurwitz.” During both panels the “Mrs. Featherbottom” architect discussed our favorite criminally-challenged family and their venture to the big screen with the Arrested Development film.

In “The Art of Storytelling” Hurwitz was accompanied by fellow Arrested Development producers Steven Zaillan and Ron Howard. The trio discussed the origins of the documentary style and how they sought to avoid the comparison to the original British version of The Office which was gaining momentum at the same time of Arrested Development’s development. (Say that three times… Arrested Development’s develop… I can’t even type it.)

Later in the panel, the trio appeared to still be deciding on which direction ...

Click to continue reading Mitchell Hurwitz Talks ‘Arrested Develoment’ Film

This Week:

Timothy Olyphant is Crazy; an Arrested Development film is in development; Jason Bourne appears to just keep coming; Brian Grazer has stupid ideas for Magnum P.I and Mila Kunis reads The Book of Eli.

Box Office

It was predicted and it came to pass. Teen vampire film Twilight took a huge bite out of the box office this weekend with a massive gross of $73 million. The sequel(s) have already been given the green and it looks like this $37 million flick is going to be hugely profitable for fledgling studio Summit. Writer Stephanie Meyer, director Catherine Hardwicke and stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart should be pretty happy this weekend. I wonder if they’ve ever heard of type-casting?

Daniel Craig’s second James Bond outing should shoot up another $30 million over the weekend giving the 007 adventure a total gross of $110 million.
