The DC Comics Reboot – or the DC relaunch, or The New 52, or whatever you want to call it – is probably the biggest thing to happen to comic books since Crisis On Infinite Earths nearly 26 years ago. Not just in terms of changing the canonical status quo, but also in terms of the way comic books are sold.

DC Universe To Be Rebooted; How Will It Affect the Justice League Film?

Today marks the biggest development for DC Comics since 1985 and Crisis On Infinite Earths. It may, in fact, be the company’s biggest development ever.

At the end of August – following the current comic book crossover Flashpoint – DC’s entire line of books will be rebooted with 52 number one issues, starting with Geoff Johns and Jim Lee’s newer, younger, redesigned Justice League.

How will this reboot (and the redesigns) affect the upcoming DCU feature films – especially Justice League? Keep on reading.

Jeff Robinov, president of the Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, is opening up and letting movie fans know that his company has some far-reaching plans for their DC superhero properties. Plans that include taking another shot at the long-stalled Justice League movie.

In addition to having a DC superhero team-up film to rival Marvel’s The Avengers, Robinov has also stated that the team-up film will launch other cinematic properties like The Flash and Wonder Woman.

Of course a Justice League movie wouldn’t be complete without Batman – but Chris Nolan has been very clear that his Batman trilogy (which ends next year with The Dark Knight Rises) is a self-contained universe. That’s OK, says Robinov: they can just create a new ...

‘Aquaman’ Movie Happening… After ‘Wonder Woman’ & ‘The Flash’

For years DC Comics has teased fans about a possible Aquaman movie – but the most that loyal fans were given was a failed television pilot in 2007, a fake movie directed by James Cameron (Avatar) in the HBO series Entourage and a reoccurring character in the highly popular Warner Bros. TV series, Smallville.

Alan Ritchson, the actor who plays Arthur Curry, a.k.a. Aquaman in Smallville, recently did an interview with Comic Book Resources where he stated that he thought an Aquaman movie would start swimming soon – but that he hasn’t been approached to play the title role. NYCC: Geoff Johns Talks ‘Green Lantern’ Movie Trailer, ‘Smallville’ & More

New York Comic-Con is officially underway and the 2010 convention kicked off with a panel spotlighting none other than DC Entertainment Creative Director Geoff Johns.

For those who don’t know, Geoff Johns has been an influential comic book writer of the past decade, responsible for resurrecting Silver Age Green Lantern and Flash (Hal Jordan and Barry Allen) as well as helping to bring about the upcoming Green Lantern and Flash movies.

In the panel Johns touched upon a number of issues, ranging from DC’s comic book plans to what we can expect from DCE/Warner Bros. and their multimedia aspirations for the DC Universe.

Superheroes are no strangers to public makeovers. Sometimes the actor portraying a superhero changes every few years, while the visual effects that enhance another hero are upgraded with a new sequel. However, I’m not too sure any superhero could recover from a hipster makeover.

If you ever wondered what your favorite web-slinger would look like in full hipster mode, today is your lucky day. College Humor turned all of your favorite heroes into the self-conscious, anti-establishment personalities that are found creating new trends on every street corner.

Justice League Announcement at Comic-Con?

This summer’s San Diego Comic-Con is set to be one of the biggest ever on the Hollywood side of things. For the last several years, attendance numbers have been pushed to the max as major motion pictures try to capture the attention of the most hardcore of geeks and this year will see presentations on some of the most anticipated comic book movies ever.

We know Marvel is trying to steal the show with the premiere of the first official trailer for Thor and likely some good stuff on The First Avenger: Captain America to go with some other goodies and surprises, no doubt teasing The Avengers which will bring all of their heroes together.

Warner Bros. Banking On DC Comics After Harry Potter

It looks like comic book fans have some stake in the Harry Potter franchise after all. Warner Bros. Entertainment President Alan Horn made a tiny little comment at ShoWest that’s got people in full Montgomery Burns mode (Excellent!). With four DC Comics films in the rear view mirror and at least five on the way, the snippet reported by /Film would seem obvious, but means a whole lot more coming from Horn.

“As we ease out of Harry Potter, we hope to bring you the excitement of the DC [Comics] Library.”

Ever since we heard that DC Comics and Warner Bros. were forming a new venture called DC Entertainment, a lot of us have been wondering one thing: what’s the new game plan going to be?

Well, we’re still waiting to hear announcements from DCE about some of our favorite superheroes’ chances of being on the big screen, but today we’re at least getting a clearer picture of who will be making the decisions that put them there (or not). And some of these names are ones that comic book geeks know all too well…

DC Movie Update: ‘Major Announcements’ Coming in 2010

For a few days now, Collider has been sharing a the knowledge they gained from a lengthy talk with producer Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes, Terminator Salvation). We recently posted a snippet of Lin talking about Terminator Salvation‘s ending, and today we’re going to follow the conversation into the subject of DC/WB’s slate of upcoming superhero movies, including Justice League, which has been stopping and going and stopping again for a few years now.

The word from Lin: Justice League is still on hold. However, it may not stay that way for too long – just one of many things we should hear more about in early 2010, as we now have further confirmation that DC/WB will be unveiling their superhero movie plans to the masses!

Aquaman & The Flash Movies Moving (Sort of) Forward

The Hollywood Reporter recently did an extensive report on some of the new projects that DC Comics and partner Warner Bros. have in the works. There was mention of an Adam Strange movie, a Teen Titans project and even talk of two Green Arrow films – but the two biggest nuggets of news had to do with progress that is (sort of) being made on the big-screen adaptations of Aquaman and The Flash.

Warner Bros Finally Gets Serious About DC Comics

It has been a long time in coming, but it now appears that Warner Bros. has finally decided to make use of their stable of DC Comics characters.

Following the financial and critical success of The Dark Knight Warner Bros. has realized that they are sitting on a gold mine – not only from box office receipts, but also from DVD, television, video games and other sources of revenue.

Last month the company held a strategy meeting in an attempt to figure out what was needed in order for them to match Marvel Comics in the comic book movie stakes, and it would appear that they have finally come up with a plan.

No, The Aquaman TV Series Is *NOT* Greenlit

I’ve seen reported on a couple of websites that there is a new trailer/commercial posted over at Google Video for an Aquaman TV series. Before you get all excited let me point out that this video has been out for about 10 months and is the promo trailer for the Aquaman pilot that was supposed to air on the CW network but was never picked up (which I first reported on back in November 2005).

You can see the video for yourself here.

If you watch the video, notice that Justin Hartley is playing the title role. After the failed pilot he went on to play Green Arrow in Smallville instead.
