Syfy Renews ‘Alphas’ For Season 2

Syfy’s newest original series Alphas has found solid footing among the network’s regular viewers, so they’ve ordered a second round of the superhero series after just eight weeks. The show will return in 2012 with thirteen episodes.

Alphas debuted this summer to 2.5 million viewers, beating out Syfy’s most popular series Warehouse 13, which premiered its third season the same night. While the show hasn’t reached the same numbers since, it’s consistently scored in the 1.5-2 million range, a solid showing for a new cable show. According to Syfy, Alphas averages 3.3 million viewers including repeat airings and DVR viewers.

‘Alphas’ Adds Guest Stars Summer Glau & Brent Spiner, ‘Warehouse 13′ Crossover

Syfy’s take on plainclothes superheroes, Alphas, is off to a decent start, but the network wants to keep the hits coming with some high-profile guest stars. And like Eureka before it, the show is hoping to get a boost from a crossover with the popular Warehouse 13.

Angel, Firefly and Terninator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles veteran Summer Glau will add her talents to Alphas when she makes a guest appearance on the August 22nd episode. Brent Spiner, better known to Trekkies as Lt. Commander Data, will appear in the September 12th episode, along with Lost regular Rebecca Mader.

Perhaps most exciting for fans of Syfy’s ever-expanding shared fictional universe: Lindsay Wagner of Warehouse 13 will appear on the August 15th episode of Alphas. She’ll be playing Vanessa Calder, a recurring Warehouse physician who’s aided the ...

Superheroes have had a hard time of it since NBC’s Heroes said goodbye last year. The Cape and No Ordinary Family came and went with disappointing results, and Wonder Woman barely got off the ground before crashing down again. Syfy hopes to reverse the trend on cable with Alphas, their sole scripted addition for the summer. Can the latest take on televised superheroes break the mold?

Alphas starts off fast and hard, giving viewers little introduction as an unknown Manhattan man is directed by unseen voices. The man follows instructions, revealing a sniper rifle and a rooftop vantage point. At the insistence of his invisible instigator, he fires.

Syfy Promotes ‘Alphas’ with New Poster & TV Spots

Syfy’s latest original series, Alphas, is scheduled to debut in just over a month. The promotion machine is in full swing, with a cinematic poster and multiple TV promos hyping-up the summer premiere.

Alphas follows Section 8, a team of meta-humans employed by the CIA to find and subdue threats from other ‘Alphas’. Say, this is starting to sound familiar. The team is lead by Dr. Lee Rosen (David Strathairn, Good Night and Good Luck), a normal human (Beta?) psychiatrist who counsels the team and hones their abilities.

Syfy Sets Premiere For ‘Alphas’ & Other Summer Shows

Syfy announced its schedule for new and returning summer shows in a new press release. Most exciting is the single new scripted series, Alphas, while Eureka, Warehouse 13, and Haven will return for their latest seasons.

Three of the shows will premiere on the same night, Monday, July 11th:

Eureka will return to television the same night. The show has a small but dedicated following, who tune in for the antics of a planned community of super-scientists and their “normal” lawman Jack Carter (Colin Ferguson). Eureka is coming off its fourth season, wherein the team’s time traveling adventures have altered the reality of the present. Eureka is in the 8PM timeslot.

A Closer Look At The Characters of Syfy’s ‘Alphas’

As network TV lines up for an all-out assault of superpower TV shows in next year, SyFy doesn’t intend to be left out in the cold on cable. Screen Rant reported that the channel picked up a pilot for Alphas over a year ago, and since then SyFy has ordered an additional 11 episodes and filled out the cast. Here’s an extended look at the upcoming series.

Alphas, formerly titled Section 8, follows a covert government team filled with superheroes of the mental/psychic variety. The team (which will hold on to the Section 8 moniker) operates under the CIA to find and neutralize other ‘Alphas’.

Today’s Weekly TV Wrap Up has some news about the Syfy channel picking up a show called Alphas, news on Chuck air dates, plus renewal news on In Plain Sight and other USA shows.

I’m also chatting about some Ghost Whisperer bits, Futurama voice casting news and some news about Medium on CBS. I’ve also found some casting news on Game Of Thrones.

Syfy Picks Up Alphas

Syfy has picked up a 90-minute action-adventure pilot called Alphas.

Alphas is about a team of ordinary citizens who possess hyper-developed neurological abilities. Each person has a slightly special feature about them, but as a team, they combine to have extra-special skills. It’s to be written by Zak Penn (X-Men: The Last Stand), Michael Karnow and BermanBraun Television.

For whatever reason, NBC and ABC passed on Alphas while Syfy, having the opportunity, jumped on this superhero genre show.
