Ricky Gervais Teams with ‘Dexter’ Producer Clyde Phillips On ‘Afterlife’

After a string of comedic outings partnered mostly with his co-creator on The Office, Stephen Merchant, few could have foreseen Ricky Gervais’ next collaborator would be Clyde Phillips – formerly of Showtime’s hit series Dexter. Strange as it may sound, Gervais and Phillips are teaming to bring the religion-centric show Afterlife to television in 2012.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the duo is working on a new series, which follows an atheist’s journey to heaven after his death.

Unlike The Office or Extras, Afterlife won’t be a starring vehicle for Gervais, but will instead feature another actor in the lead. Like the comedian’s upcoming series for BBC Two and HBO, Life’s Too Short, Gervais will simply make a cameo, or a series of brief appearances throughout the run of the show.

Let’s just get down to the basics: If you want to see both a movie that keeps you guessing as to what’s really happening AND Christina Ricci naked – then After.Life is for you.

I’m sure that the summary above is no more than what many healthy young males need to read before dashing off to watch After.Life. The film is an obviously low budget little piece of work, and I was really surprised to see Liam Neeson in it. Must have been one of those movies that looked very intriguing in screenplay form.

Paul (Justin Long) and Anna (Christina Ricci) are a young couple with what seems to be a bit of a stunted relationship. Anna seems to have… issues. She’s cold and distant and is taking some sort of prescription medication ...

Question: What do you get when you mix a creepy Liam Neeson, a scantily clad Christina Ricci, a giant butcher’s knife, and a whole bunch of moody music? Answer: The first official trailer for Anchor Bay’s upcoming horror/suspense film After.Life.

Liam Neeson & Christina Ricci Discover What Is “After.Life”

Way back last year we brought you news that Liam Neeson and Christina Ricci would be starring in the horror film After.Life (I said it before and I’ll say it again – the “.” is supposed to be there).

The film stars Liam Neeson as a funeral director who is contacted by a woman (Christina Ricci) who is caught between life and death. Alfred Molina and Justin Long co-star in the Agnieszka Vosloo directed chiller.

Weekend Movie News Wrap Up: October 19, 2008

Sunday again and that means that it is time for the Weekend Movie News Wrap Up.

This week:

We see who is top of the box office; Kevin Smith ups his budget and goes into space; Brad Pitt goes on an Odyssey and plays an Unfair Game; Liam Neeson and Christina Ricci do Life and Ronin zooms to the small screen.

Box Office

Marky Mark Wahlberg is the box office champion with Max Payne. The film should manage about $20 million over the weekend giving 20^th Century Fox their first solid hit in months.

Oliver Stone’s W bucked the political movie trend by making a solid bit of cash. Grossing around $12MM for the weekend the film should be a modest hit. Considering the current political overkill going on in the press this is a considerable coup.

The Secret Life of Bees had a modest opening too, and should match the gross of the Bush ...
