2010 Oscar Race Update: Producers Guild & SAG Award Winners

This past weekend the race for 2010 Oscar got just a bit more debatable, with some surprise winners walking away from both the Producers Guild Awards (PGA) and the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG).

James Cameron walked away happy from The 2010 Golden Globe Awards,with Avatar taking the top trophies for Best Director and Best Dramatic Picture, leading everybody to think that the Oscars would follow suit. With the Best Picture category now open to ten nominees, variety and uncertainty were suppossed to be this year’s theme.

However, in the months leading up to the biggest award in Hollywood, only a handful of films seem to be popping up as the top contenders.

The names we keep hearing again and again are as follows (listed by name with the director in parenthesis).

2010 Golden Globe Award Winners

I’m sure if you’re at all interested in which movies win what at each of the big award ceremonies, you caught the 67 Annual Golden Globe Awards last night on NBC. It was a fun show (as the Globes usually are compared to the Oscars), with some predictable/expected winners and some pretty major shocks.

Rickey Gervais was an absolute hoot as the host, jabbing in and out with often controversial but almost always funny gags which ranged from a Mel Gibson drinking joke (“I like a drink as much as the next man. Unless the next man is Mel Gibson.”) to one about Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler (“It’s Rachel from Friends and that bloke out of 300.”). Great stuff from a great host choice.

Question: What do the movies Saw VI, Extract, Gamer, A Serious Man, Whiteout, The Hole, and Law Abiding Citizen have in common? They all have new posters that Screen Rant has for your viewing pleasure, that’s what!

First up is Saw VI, yet another installment in the surprisingly highly successful torture-porn horror franchise, Saw. Maybe it’s the fact that they kicked off this kind of horror movie trend, maybe it’s the marketing, who knows, but for some reason people keep going to see these movies. They lost any intellectual stimulation for the audience a few movies ago, and it’s now all really about how to cram as much gorey traps into the runtime as possible. Saw VI looks to be no different.

Brilliant Trailer for The Coen Bros.’ ‘A Serious Man’

Today we finally get the trailer for the Coen Brothers’ (No Country For Old Men, The Big Lebowski) newest film, A Serious Man. The difference between this movie and other Coen outings is the lack of any major stars, with just a few of those, “I’ve seen that guy in something before…” actors scattered here and there.

Before we get to the trailer, you might be wondering what A Serious Man is about. Since we haven’t covered it here at Screen Rant yet, here is the general plot:

Set in 1967, the black comedy/drama follows Larry Gopnick (Michael Stuhlberg), a Midwestern professor who seeks the advice of three different rabbis after his wife decides she wants a divorce because his inept brother won’t move out of the house.
