Early Review of ‘A Nightmare On Elm Street’

This past weekend there was a test screening for the highly anticipated Platinum Dunes re-imagining of the horror classic, A Nightmare on Elm Street. Lucky for us, someone going by the pseudonym “Skin Peeler”  was in attendance and wrote up an extremely lengthy review of the film for the folks over at Ain’t It Cool News.

What did he think? While I’ve sampled some of the highlights from the review here, I can tell you right now that it appears much work needs to be done before the April 30, 2010, release date. Keep in mind that none of the effects, sound, editing (pretty much everything) are final at this moment.

Jackie Earle Haley Talks ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ Trailer

With the release of the trailer for A Nightmare on Elm Street came a slew of reactions; some positive, some negative. Fans were going back and forth on almost every aspect of the film. There was so much debate that Nightmare on Elm Street producer Brad Fuller stepped in to respond to fans concerns. The only person we’ve yet to hear from is Mr. Krueger himself, Jackie Earle Haley…until now, that is.

While at the 2009 Scream Awards last night our friends over at Shock Till You Drop caught up with Platinum Dunes’ newest dream-master to ask him about his thoughts regarding the recently released trailer and his take on the fans’ reactions.

Platinum Dunes Signs With Paramount for ‘Butcherhouse Chronicles’

When informed people (like those over at Collider, who brought this to our attention) think Platinum Dunes, they recall the production company owned by Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form.  When I think Platinum Dunes, I imagine that Kanye West “Dancing in the Desert” music video.

But I digress.

Platinum Dunes has signed a first-look deal with Paramount, starting with their next film, The Butcherhouse Chronicles.  A first-look deal, for those who don’t know, is (very briefly) an agreement in which a Party A (Paramount) has the right to pick up a project before Party B (Dunes) can offer it to anyone else.

‘Nightmare On Elm Street’ Producer Responds To Fan Concerns

The release of the A Nightmare On Elm Street trailer finally allowed fans to see not only a glimpse of the upcoming film, but also a glimpse of how Freddy would look and sound. The fan response was overwhelming, but not without controversy.

While fans were interested in seeing the trailer for the film, most walked away feeling one of two ways: “This looks great” or “Michael Bay Sucks.” While the latter might make you believe the discussion was about Transformers 2, remember that Bay’s production studio, Platinum Dunes, is behind this horror re-imagining.
