Alice gets too big for britches while Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan try (in vain?) to get a chuckle out of us. Check these new clips for 'Alice In Wonderland' and 'Cop Out'

Continuing our Screen Rant “Lifestyle of Convenience Initiative” today we have clips from both Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland and Kevin Smith’s cop/buddy comedy, Cop Out.

If you need some quick background on the two films: Alice In Wonderland is a sequel/re-imagining in which Alice (Mia Wasikowska), now a teenage girl, is thrust back into Wonderland with no memory of her prior visit and tasked with saving the lunatic realm from the evil Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter). Cop Out stars Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan as two odd-couple cops who go looking for a stolen baseball card and end up in a whole lot of NYC-inspired mess.

We’ll do Alice In Wonderland first: In this latest clip, Alice eats one of those “pills that makes you larger” which Jefferson Airplane sang so famously about and literally gets ...

Click to continue reading New ‘Alice In Wonderland’ & ‘Cop Out’ Clips

So the first trailer for Kevin Smith’s A Couple of Dicks Cop Out dropped awhile back, but it was so bad that apparently we didn’t even bother to post it!

No real loss, though, as the only thing the theatrical trailer accomplished was making your head ache while you wondered A) What’s happened to Kevin Smith? B) What is Bruce Willis doing in a film like this? C) How can Tracy Morgan be go from being funny in a show like 30 Rock to being the most unfunny person ever filmed?

Today we have a new red-band trailer for Cop Out and it certainly answers 2 out of those 3 questions asked above.

Box Office
It’s Labor Day weekend again and that can only mean one thing – low box office. Horror franchise film The Final Destination 3-D held onto the top spot with a pretty decent $12 million 3-day take. It should have $15 million in the bag by the close of business Monday giving it a $50 million total.
Mallrats, Clerks, Chasing Amy, Dogma, blah, blah, blah. Yet there’s a dark little place in my heart that secretly loves Jersey Girl. There, I said it. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I am intrigued (and a little tickled) by the prospect of the new Kevin Smith film, A Couple of Dicks.

I hesitate to prematurely pass judgment on the film based merely on its pedigree, but given Smith’s track record, and the cast of Dicks, February of 2010 has more to look forward to than Martin Luther King, groundhogs, and chocolate hearts.

1. No Wall Street For Old Men.

Oliver Stone and 20th Century Fox want Javier Bardem to star opposite Michael Douglas and Transformer 2 Shia LaBeouf in Wall Street 2.
Whilst Bardem hasn’t met with Stone or the studio as of yet, the Spanish star is at the top of their wish list to play the villain in the sequel to the Oscar-winning hit.

Apparently the plot of the movie involves LaBeouf’s character seeking revenge on (what would be) Bardem’s evil stock trader. Pixar’s Up shows that family films and the Pixar brand are hugely profitable. The animated film banked a huge $68 million over the weekend. For a film that sells most of it’s tickets in half price matinees that’s a lot of attendance.

Last week’s champion Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian had to settle for the runner up spot with a weekend take of $25 million. With ...

Click to continue reading Weekend Movie News Wrap Up: May 31, 2009

Bruce Willis is an iconic man of action to males (and females) of a certain age. John McClane from the Die Hard films is probably his trademark role (although some might say it’s David Addison from TV’s Moonlighting) and throughout the last twenty years he has been synonymous with the action genre. That isn’t about to change anytime soon.

Willis has been in discussions to star in no less than three new action films – three new editions to a pending slate that already includes A Couple of Dicks (set to be directed by Kevin Smith) and Kane and Lynch.

The three latest films are serial killer flick Inventory, mobster movie Scarpa and CIA pic Red .

According to The Hollywood Reporter:

“In Inventory, Willis, who is in negotiations for the role, would play a detective on the trail of a murderer.

In Red, Willis would ...

Click to continue reading Bruce Willis Is Still A Man Of Action

In this weeks Wrap Up:

Watchmen watches the top of the box office; Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan are A Couple of Dicks; we may not get Three Stories About Joan but we will get a lot of suing; Wahlberg takes Prisoners; Steve Carrell brings us the worlds first “Testosterone comedy” in Hi-T; Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck knows The 28th Amendment (and breaks my spell check).

Box Office

As predicted Zack Snyder’s adaptation of Watchmen captured the top spot at the box office with an estimated $55 million opening weekend. A pretty substantial sum considering the near three hour running time and the R rating. Time will tell if the film has legs and the mainstream crossover appeal to the general public.

Madea Goes to Jail banked another $8.5 million to keep acquire the runner-up spot. So far the Tyler Perry film has netted $76 million.

Liam Neeson’s sleeper hit Taken has ...

Click to continue reading Weekend Movie News Wrap Up: March 8, 2009
