The 24 TV show/movie adaptation spent the majority of 2011 in limbo, following reports that 2oth Century Fox officials weren’t impressed with an early script draft penned by Billy Ray. However, unlike the screenwriter’s (seemingly) abandoned draft for The Hunger Games, Ray’s version of the 24 movie will reportedly remain partly intact – and was reworked by Mark Bomback (Live Free or Die Hard) in the hopes of getting production going by Spring 2012.

According to Jack Bauer himself (Kiefer Sutherland), that is still the plan; now, the actor has even opened up a bit about when the film will take place, with respect to the 24 TV series finale.

After several delays, Imagine Entertainment & Fox are pushing hard to get the '24' movie into production this spring. Will fans be excited to see Jack Bauer back in action on the big screen?

Jack is back – for real this time. At the beginning of the year, a report claimed that Fox was unsatisfied with Billy Ray’s script for the big screen version of the hit series 24 and that the movie was in temporary limbo. Not long after, however, Kiefer Sutherland said that the movie was still in the works and that certain elements of Ray’s script were still in play.

Now, just like its hero, the 24 movie has burst back to life to kick terrorist butt. According to a new report, 24 is just about ready for the big time, pending some last-minute tweaks to the screenplay from new screenwriter Mark Bomback (Unstoppable, The Wolverine).

Deadline has the story that Imagine Entertainment and Fox are pushing hard to get the film started by spring ...

Click to continue reading ’24′ Movie Aiming for a Spring 2012 Start Date

This week:

The box office sees a Wimpy Kid knock out Zack Snyder with a Sucker Punch; Johnny Depp is a Thin Man; Dennis Quaid joins Gerard Butler in Playing the Field; Liv Tyler kicks The Hobbit; Robert De Niro, Forest Whitaker, and Curtis (50 Cent) Jackson are Freelancers, and more!

Box Office

Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch received a… sucker punch on its release by Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules. The family film should out gross Snyder’s latest fantasy flick by about $5 million. The $19 million debut of Sucker Punch is in line with Warner Bros’ (lowered) expectations. The film received mixed reviews (read ours here) and it looks like it might not connect with an audience for the long haul. Warner Bros. rolled a dice on this (much like they did with Chris Nolan’s Inception) and while it might not have ...

Click to continue reading Weekend Movie News Wrap Up: March 27th, 2011

The American car: few things define an individual better than the car they drive and nothing better defines a movie or TV series than the car the lead character drives. For years people from all walks of life were known by their cars and that recognition spilled over into TV shows and movies in a big way.

Throughout the 60s, 70s and 80s cars played a big part in just about every TV series and film – to the point that audiences would see the car and immediately associate it with a particular (entertainment) brand. Sometimes the car was just an iconic mode of transportation meant to show the societal class of the person driving it – like Fred Sanford’s beat up 1951 Ford truck in Sanford & Son, Colt Seavers’ early 1980s model GMC ...

Click to continue reading 25 Most Iconic Cars From TV & Movies

What better way to celebrate the beginning of 2011 than to get all nostalgic and take a look back at some of last year's most memorable television moments. Will your favorite be on the list?

With 2011 now in full swing and the vast array of upcoming new and returning television series upon us, there’s no better time than now to reminisce about last year’s great television moments.

Over 50 new series premiered on television throughout last year, and combined with the series already running on air, it’s fair to say that 2010 provided more new and continual television viewing opportunities than any other year previously. Sure, that largely had to do with NBC completely ruining their primetime line-up and attempting to fix it with a slew of new programming, but we’ll talk about that a little later.

While watching television is a completely subjective experience and not everyone will agree with everything included on our list, I would like to note that we tried to be fair and looked at every television ...

Click to continue reading The Best TV Moments of 2010

Fox has turned down the '24' movie script written by Billy Ray (State of Play). What does this mean for the '24' movie?

If you were sad to see Fox’s landmark action series 24 end last year after nine years on the air, you can rest assured that we haven’t seen the last of Jack Bauer. Not only can you enjoy the show’s eight seasons on DVD/Blu-ray, there’s also a 24 movie on the way.

As many of those involved with 24 have previously said (particularly Jack Bauer himself, Kiefer Sutherland), the series being over now clears the way for a 24 movie as the insane shooting schedules for the show made a simultaneous movie release pretty much impossible.

There has been talk of a 24 movie for literally years now and in February 2009 State of Play screenwriter Billy Ray was hired to write the script. Last April, Sutherland confirmed that the 24 movie was finally on the way, with ...

Click to continue reading Fox Turns Down ’24′ Movie Script

Well it’s finally here: The 24 finale. Not only the season finale, but the series finale. It’s the end of the road for Jack Bauer – and based on what Fox has allowed to be done to his character this season all I can say is “Rest in Peace.”

Now that’s not to say that I know he’s going to die in tonight’s episode (this is being written prior to the show airing), but what I am saying is that as far as I’m concerned the well-loved, honorable, stop-at-(almost)-nothing to defend his country man that we’ve come to know died a few episodes back.

It’s that time of the year when we must once again bid adieu, albeit temporarily (except for Lost, which is gone forever), to our favorite television shows. Over the next four weeks, over 60 shows will be on hiatus until this fall.

While that means your summer viewing schedule will be completely open, you better get your DVR’s ready, because the month of May is going test your television watching ability.

Luckily, Entertainment Weekly has helped put some order to all this television madness by putting together a comprehensive list of all the upcoming season/series finales.

Check out the list below to see when your favorite TV show finale airs. While you’re at it, you better check it twice because there are many overlapping finales. For instance, the two-hour series finale of Lost is on at the same time ...

Click to continue reading Complete Guide To 2010 TV Season/Series Finales

Now that Fox's 24 has officially been canceled, the long talked-about movie version is on the way, and Jack Bauer himself claims that the script is already finished.

By now I hope the news that Fox’s 24 has been canceled has settled into your system. I’m a big fan of the show and was very sad (but not altogether surprised) to see it wave goodbye after eight seasons. But as always there’s a silver lining to be found and that is that we can now look forward to the much-talked-about movie version of 24.

A little while back we learned that State of Play screenwriter Billy Ray had been hired to write the 24 movie script. But even then some people were still (and still are) doubting we’d ever see the movie get made. However, it appears that things are moving faster than expected with the 24 movie.

Jack Bauer himself, Kiefer Sutherland, was recently over in the UK promoting 24‘s eighth season and ...

Click to continue reading Kiefer Sutherland Says The ’24′ Movie Script Is Finished

Unless you’ve been without Internet access for the last few days, you’ve probably heard the unfortunate (but somehow inevitable) news that Fox’s hit series 24 has been cancelled. At first it was a Tweet from show producer Jon Cassar, but then came the reaction from the other folks involved, including exec producer and showrunner Howard Gordon.

As a fan of 24 I am very sad about this news – personally I thought it could have gone on at least another season. But a silver lining is that a movie version of the show now has the freedom to be developed (the writers and producers have said on numerous occasions a movie was not possible while the show is still on the air). A writer for the 24 movie has already been found in the form of Billy ...

Click to continue reading Sutherland & Producer Talk ’24′ Cancellation; NBC Not Interested

Following yesterday’s news of Fox officially canceling 24, many fans were left wondering not only what led to the hit series cancellation, but what the future holds for their beloved hero, Jack Bauer, and the world in which in lives.

Luckily, The Hollywood Reporter had a chance to sit down with 24 executive producer and showrunner, Howard Gordon, to talk all things 24. Not only does he provide insight behind the cancellation of the series, but also divulges an interesting fact; Fox was never presented with ideas for a ninth season.

Take a look at what Gordon said about the cancellation, future, film, finale and hopeful legacy of 24 below.

After weeks of rumors, Fox has officially canceled '24'. However, with the possibility of NBC picking up the series and the long discussion of a 24 movie, is this really the end of Jack Bauer's bad days?

After 9 years, 8 seasons and 192 episodes, the hit Fox drama, 24 has been officially canceled. While rumors have been running rampant for weeks pointing to the show’s cancellation, it wasn’t until today that we received word from someone connected to the show. Former 24 executive producer, Jon Cassar, broke the news via his Twitter page.

News from the 24 set,the crew has been told that 24 has come to an end. There will b no season 9. Its been a great run, thanx all 4 watching

Screen Rant actually received word from a reliable source yesterday informing us of 24 being officially canceled, but we were unable to confirm the information with anyone directly associated with the show. So, instead of running with it, we decided to wait until more information was released. While a ...

Click to continue reading Fox Officially Cancels ’24′ – Goodbye Jack Bauer

Beyond the thrills of the actual TV show, fans of Fox’s long-running real-time TV series 24 must be fretting in between each episode, as the fate of the show hangs in the balance. We’ve been hearing word for awhile now that 24 might be coming to an end after the current season. Sad news for long-time fans who still enjoy the exploits of Jack Bauer.

Previously on 24…

A few days ago we reported on the inside word that the decision about 24‘s fate was going to come any day now (at the time of the post it was “a day or two” and yet here we are with no announcement).
Well, it’s been visible on the TV horizon for awhile now but it looks like the news is finally coming into clear view: Fox’s hit show 24 looks to be coming to a close after this, its eighth season.

The news comes from Variety and states that a decision will be made whether to end the show or not after the current eighth season in a day or two. The execs of both the studio and the network declined to comment for the time being. I think you can take it that they don’t want to say anything until they make an official announcement either way.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese remained kings of the box office as Shutter Island banked another $21 million to bring its total to $75 million. It looks like this just might out-gross The Departed to be the duo’s highest grossing film.

Bruce Willis’ Cop Out was second with a weekend take of $17 million. The film also stars Tracy Morgan and Seann William Scott. Cop Out, as every review and article that I’ve read states, is the first film that Kevin Smith has directed that he didn’t write.
Over the few months we’ve been sharing some wicked minimalist posters, such as the movies of Quentin Tarantino and the various Star Wars movies. Today we continue highlighting these posters by showcasing a few based on some of the most popular TV shows out there.

Long time readers of Screen Rant might remember a few of these posters from our editor Rob Keyes’ regular Poster Friday articles, but since “major sites” are now reporting on them like they’re new or something, we thought we’d offer you a few more.

There’s literally dozens of these posters by artist Albert Exergian but we’ve chosen just a handful either for how clever/cool looking they are or because the shows are of particular interest to our readers. We’ve chosen posters for True Blood, Heroes, <a ...

Click to continue reading SR Pick: Minimalist TV Show Posters
