Denzel Washington May Team With Mark Wahlberg For ’2 Guns’

Oscar-winner (and Hollywood icon) Denzel Washington likes to vary between roles in prestigious drama fare and more mainstream, action-packed material. He’s not planning to drop that habit anytime soon, seeing how he recently wrapped work on director Robert Zemeckis’ Flight – and is now in talks to play an undercover government agent in the upcoming comic book adaptation, 2 Guns.

Mark Wahlberg is already onboard to co-headline 2 Guns, which reteams the actor with his Contraband director, Baltasar Kormákur. Financing for the lightweight action-thriller is currently being assembled, with Universal Pictures already committed to marketing and distributing the film in the U.S..

‘Contraband’ Helmer May Reteam With Wahlberg On ’2 Guns’

It looks like Mark Wahlberg has found another director he gets along well with – besides David O. Russell, that is.

Icelandic filmmaker Baltasar Kormákur – who directed Wahlberg in the upcoming Contraband – is reportedly in the midst of negotiations to sign on as director for 2 Guns: a comic book adaptation that was on the verge of becoming Russell’s next writing/directing effort, earlier this year. The filmmaker eventually passed on the project to go work on The Silver Linings Playbook instead – long before Wahlberg became attached to 2 Guns, that is.

Casting Roundup: ’2 Guns’, ‘Now You See Me’, ‘Stoker’

There’s more casting news to catch up on, starting with what could’ve been the next team-up with actor Mark Wahlberg and writer/director David O. Russell, 2 Guns.

Russell was previously planning to script and direct 2 Guns for Universal, with Vince Vaughn attached to star – however, both have seemingly passed on the project and now, Wahlberg looks to headline the movie instead.

2 Guns is an adaptation of the comic book by Steven Grant, which tells the story of two undercover men – a DEA agent and Naval Intelligence officer – who join forces to rob a bank that houses mob money. As it turns out, though, the pair were set up and inadvertently steal $50 million from the CIA.

David O. Russell May Shoot ’2 Guns’ Before ‘Uncharted’

Hot and in demand after his award-nominated work in The Fighter, David O. Russell is expanding his repertoire beyond the field of quirky indie fare and action/sports genre pics to include… possibly both quirky comic book and video game adaptations – assuming he signs on to rewrite and direct 2 Guns.

Russell is currently in the midst of negotiations to tackle the big screen version of Boom! Studios’ graphic novel 2 Guns – even though Mark Wahlberg recently indicated that Uncharted could begin filming this summer, with Russell at the helm.

Universal picked up the rights to 2 Guns back in 2008 and fashioned the project as a starring vehicle for Vince Vaughn, based on a screenplay by Blake Masters (Law & Order: Los Angeles). Heat Vision says that Russell ...
