You really have to hand it to Sylvester Stallone. For years he was rumored to be a shoe-in for a role in Quentin Tarantino’s forthcoming Inglorious Basterds, however when the cast was put together he was nowhere in sight.
So what does Old Sly do? He writes his own “men on a mission” movie and crams it with some of the biggest badasses working in action cinema today.
Stallone will write, direct, and star in The Expendables, alongside Jason Statham and Jet Li.

“The film follows a team of mercenaries on a mission to overthrow a South American dictator.”
Now this sounds pretty darn cool. After the fantastic one-two punch of Rocky Balboa and Rambo it looks that Stallone has really got his action groove back. That coupled with the addition of Statham and Li makes this a must see.
I wonder who else Stallone can get to star in this thing?

The film will be produced by Nu Image/Millennium Films who helped Stallone get Rambo off the ground. The Expendables shooting (in more ways than one) in February in Costa Rica and Louisiana.

Wow. This sounds cool. Rambo really surprised me so I think this one will be a winner as well.
I have to agree with Steven. I have always been a fan of Sly, but I have never cared for any of Tarentino’s work. I will definitely see this movie and definitely NOT see Basterds…..
When Sly signed on to do the NBC boxing reality show The Contender his career as he new it was in big trouble. His gamble with Rocky Balboa and then Rambo payed off as both films were really good. It got him off the canvas. I look forward to his work because Im a fan. I grew up with his movies. I think he’s a better writer/director than 80% of the hacks working in the movie business today! Im excited about this project!

lol. This is clearly a case where the company owner should have sold the key employee 1% of the franchise, to keep them from going out and competing against you. Then again how do we know that Stallone knew, he didn’t need Tarantino or his movie, way before “Basterds” was cooked up? My view of Tarantino is much like Shyamalan, better see the trailer and listen to the buzz before committing.

But yeah i agree with the others i dont like Quinten very much but anything with Sylverster Stallone is ALWAYS worth watching! I love all his movies! HES THE BEST!

Well John, Kill Bill didn’t exactly hit my favorite movies list. That movie just didn’t make sense to me. So no I didn’t really care for the Kill Bill movie.
Have to admit I wasn’t amazed by Kill Bill either. I’ve seen a lot of the movies QT was ‘paying tribute’ to and much prefer Lone Wolf and Cub as well as Lady Snowblood myself.
Condensed into one movie I think it would have been great, but didn’t happen.
Stallone has really impressed me at times. Rocky and First Blood are obvious ones, and loved him in Copland.
John, I have to say that I thought the Kill Bill movies were horrible. I actually hated the first one so much that I didn’t even bother to watch the second. I know I am also in the minority in this, but I HATED Pulp Fiction. Most OVERRATED movie in history.
