After a well-received appearance in the final season of WB’s seminal superhero series Smallville, the popular DC character Booster Gold is returning to the small screen in his own TV show for the Syfy channel.
The series is being headed up by Greg Berlanti’s production company, Berlanti Productions. Comic book fans might recall that Greg Berlanti is no stranger to the DC Universe. He created the superhero family drama No Ordinary Family and also wrote and produced Green Lantern (though you shouldn’t hold that against him). Comic book and TV scribe Andrew Kreisberg, who has written for Fringe, has signed on to write the pilot episode of the show.
Having his own TV show w0uld be a fitting development for Booster Gold, whose gimmick involves being a fame-hungry time traveler who uses future technology to become a modern-day superhero. Booster Gold was played by Eric Martsolf in Smallville, and alongside fellow superhero Blue Beetle proved to be popular with fans. Gold was also an important character in DC’s Flashpoint comic book event, which preceded the company’s New 52 relaunch.
The Hollywood Reporter, which first reported the news, notes that Syfy has only ordered a script for the show, not a full pilot. However, given the potential for the character, as well as the overwhelming popularity of comic book properties with mainstream audiences, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Syfy move forward with the series, eventually.

Booster Gold on Smallville.
While I’ve liked him as comic relief, I’ve never been a big fan of Booster Gold as a serious character. He’s definitely grown on me over the last year though, because of his unique backstory. The concept of a flashy, egotistical superhero from the future has a lot of potential for a TV series, particularly because, as THR writes, “the future doesn’t happen without first protecting the present.”
To those Booster Gold fans out there, what would you like to see in this TV series? Would you tune into Syfy to check out the character?

I won’t be watching if SyFy is handling it. They’ll screw it up somehow.
Depends. I like Booster, but he can’t hold a show on his own. He needs decent supporting characters. If there were Ted Kord and Michelle Carter, I would totally watch this. If the writers create totally new characters for the sole purpose of making Booster look good or ‘real’, so not happening. People like Ted and Michelle have made him grow up and show in the comics that Booster’s three-demesional character with emotions and morals, versus a egotistical gloryhound.
Hey fellow comic book geeks when I found out that they were planing on giving Booster Gold his own Tv show. I was happy to hear it. I’m a fan of the past comic book shows like smallville,Bird’s of prey, and the Night Man and other comic book related tv shows I just hope that it dose well and last longer then one season.
Comic Ace,
They need to make season 1 more of booster trying to find his way in the superhero world(of course with humor) Like booster trying to fit in make some money ect. ect. He would also need to run in with ted kord and occasionally do stuff with him Season 2 (assuming if it is good) They need to bring in JLI and Maxwell Lord than end it with Ted getting shot. Than season 3 throw in booster in a depression than he goes back in time to save ted and of course that screws up the time stream. Than make it so he can’t time travel until the end of the season so he has to save a corrupt world, at the end he sends ted back who says he is okay with dying, which will be make booster mature a bit more and take on his role of protecting time to make sure nothing like that happens again. That would be a sick way to begin the show. They need ted in it.
I liked who wants to be a superhero, I tried out for it, heroes was made by nbc, don’t forget, nbc universal and the syfy chanel are connected? methinks now, so don’t discount their power. I just hope they get over their lighting issues (everything looks dark because they don’t use film, which can translate sunlight.) Digital can’t reproduce sunlight so please syfy start shooting things on film and use in camera and old school effects when possible, -see jj abrams special features on star trek. booster gold , out!
If they do this series (and base it on the comic book), wouldn’t it demand an appearance of at least a few Legion Of Super-Heroes characters? That alone would make me watch…
Anyone know whats going on with this new show? it’s been over a year now,
maybe almost 2 years, how much longer do we have to wait for this show to
finally get rolling? a few more years maybe? watch – they might scrap the whole ssho before it even happens, , ,
