swine flu star trek Swine Flu Delays Mexican Star Trek & Wolverine Premieres

“Quien es mas macho? James T. Kirk o el virus de la gripe porcina?” The answer in English? Swine flu.

The only thing that can stop Star Trek — J.J. Abrams’ May 7 box office juggernaut — is the virulent, pork-themed virus currently dominating the headlines. Paramount announced Tuesday that it will indefinitely postpone the movie’s premiere throughout Mexico.

Mexico’s moviegoers were already set to miss out on X-Men Origins: Wolverine as 20th Century Fox announced it would also hold off on screening that blockbuster because of the pandemic.

In the wake of the flu, Mexico City is essentially shut down — making potential film premieres in the Mexican capital as unprofitable as they are potentially deadly. Both studios also expressed concern for their distribution staffers who would have to move in around the would-be infected.

There’s no word when either movie might arrive south of the border, or how the summer’s entire release schedule will change as Paramount and Fox have to find an empty weekend somewhere to salvage as many Pesos as possible.

  1. stupid pandemic…..

  2. Hey, I just got the good news that the end of the world is not the beginning of 2012, but December 21, 2012, which means we will see The Avengers before we all die, so this swine flu better not ruin that…

  3. I have been wondering if concern over the swine flu will keep anybody from coming to the theatre this weekend .
It would NEVER stop me .
just curious if Wolverine and Star Trek are still tracking ahead of iron Man in online ticket sales.

  4. Yeah, because of this Hugh Jackman did not come to the premiere here in Mexico (which BTW was today), and of course there was no premiere at all (I had won tickets for it, damn it). The film is now tentatively scheduled to open on May 15th (alongside Angels & Demons), so that will make a busy weekend for me at the movies. As for Star Trek… don’t know the new release date… Just hope the stupid swine flu doesn’t last that long, or else I’m gonna miss half of the summer movies, or have every one on the same month (god!).

Oh and Ken J: lol, hahaha….

  5. man, i just now heard that its reached my hometown now

  6. Just read that Hugh Jackmuscles canceled the Mexico leg of the movie promo tour.

  7. More people have died on the way to work this morning than have died of this bs pig flu pandemic. This is all bs, and its being manipulated on the world,,,

The Tv news is being used to scare people. Look at the facts they don’t add up…

Take a cue from America and chill out.

Get over yourself, world. This happens every year.

  9. What people don’t understand about these things, is that even the worst epidemics really only affect people with weaker immune systems like the elderly, young children, and people with compromised immune systems like those who have HIV or AIDS. Most of us really don’t have to worry too much about it. Of course, that doesn’t mean we should do what we could to prevent spreading it, because just because you might not die from it doesn’t mean you can’t catch it and pass it on to someone who might…

And of course there are exceptions to this rule, but most of the time, including this one, most people are able to survive it.

  10. Lastly,,, on this pig flu bs.

VP, Biden) the other day made a statement that he would avoid confined spaces of travel including, trains, and planes.

Today he was reportedly seen commuting from DC to Delaware via Amtrack…

For those of you that live in England “Amtrack” is a train service…

  11. 400 schools closed now. Man I used to wish for snow days…I shoulda been hoping irrational pandemonium! Beam me up, these people are nuts.

  12. Wait, you actually listened to what our VP said?
