Yesterday, The CW announced early renewals for five of its series. Screen Rant favorite Supernatural along with The Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, 90210 and America’s Next Top Model will all be returning this fall, but with all these shows being renewed there seems to be no news as to what’s going on with the fate of Smallville.

What’s going on CW?

The CW Network has given early pickups to five series for next season, including four signature dramas and the reality hit AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL. All five shows will return in Fall 2010.

The series receiving early renewals include this season’s breakout hit THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, The CW’s most-watched show (4.6 million viewers) and the network’s number one show among adults 18-34 (2.5/8). THE VAMPIRE DIARIES premiere generated the largest audience in network history for a series debut (5.7 million total viewers). THE VAMPIRE DIARIES has improved The CW’s performance Thursday at 8:00 p.m. by 114% among women 18-34 this season. The network also renewed fan favorite SUPERNATURAL, which will enter its sixth season next year. SUPERNATURAL has one of the most loyal audiences of any show on television and does heroic work in a perennially tough time period. It has improved over last season among women and adults 18-34 (29% and 8%, respectively) this season, a remarkable accomplishment for a fifth-year show.

Also given early pickups for next season are The CW’s Monday night sensation GOSSIP GIRL, which is The CW’s number one show among its target demographic of women 18-34, and Tuesday’s trend-setting drama, 90210, which sees some of TV’s largest percent increases from DVR playback, nearly doubling its women 18-34 live-only ratings once live+7 data is included. Wednesday anchor AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL will also be back for cycles 15 and 16 with superstar Tyra Banks and new groups of aspiring models. TOP MODEL continues to rank second in the competitive Wednesday 8:00 p.m. hour among young women 18-34 (3.4/10).

While I’m glad that The CW thinks Tyra Banks is a “superstar,” people are wondering what’s going on their favorite red-blue-blur themed series. Are things looking bleak for the Friday night drama?

Well, not exactly. Word is that The CW is holding off on any announcement regarding Smallville because they’re still in the middle of negotiating the actors’ contracts and when they do finally come to a decision they would like to make the announcement separately, as they may be setting up an end date to make the tenth season the show’s last.

Hmmm… hopefully if they’re looking to put an end to Smallville they’re going to bring back Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luther because there’s no way the series could end without a true conclusion to his story… but maybe that’s just me.

So, what say you fans of Supernatural and Smallville? Excited about another season? Ready for Smallville to end? Any chance Michael Rosenbaum will be returning?

Don’t forget to catch Smallville this Friday as Clark gets infected with gemstone kryptonite and watch the Winchester brothers battle zombies when Supernatural return on March 25.

  1. Great news on the Supernatural renewal but I better hear something soon on Smallville season 10. I would be fine if it was the last season but I think it deserves and epic final season. Also I would love for Rosenbaum to be back the full season but I would settle for the last few. #S10forSV

  2. HA! Smallville did zombies first!!! Copy-cat Supernatural :P

I mean Smaville's ratings would've been as good as (gag) Vampires was if it was still on Thursday at 8. It apparently did awesome for a Friday night show. So suck it Vampires! (no pun intended. lol)

  3. Season 10 of Smallville? Yes please, and I definitely think it would be great if it was the final season. 10 is a perfect number to end at (so that should mean he is 25 now, right?) and I definitely think it will help the quality of the season be great and it would help them with knowing this was actually the final season.

  4. It was smart for the former showrunners (Gough and Millar) to have left after season 7, I definitely think that seasons 5-7 showed that they had gotten burned out on keeping it fresh and running out of ideas, so the new showrunners since season 8 (which only had a few hiccups) and now 9 definitely have done too great of a job for them to be forced to end the show now. 10 is the only way for it to go now.

  5. I am a bit worried about Supernatural returning without Kripke at the helm. At the same time, I am so glad it is returning because it is one of my favorite shows (My favorite is having its 6th and final season on another network). I hope that Smallville can bring Rosenbaum back for a final season. Also, the story arc created by “Absolute Justice” needs to be broadened. I could care less about The Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, 90210 and America’s Next Top Model. Those are the typical CW shows that almost kept me from giving Supernatural a chance. Thank goodness I did.

  6. I think they set up a return for rosenbaum when dr fate spoke up lex luthor being his greatest enemy.

  7. I agree. Plus there was the comment also made by Dr. Fate where he basically said that Lex wasn't dead.

  8. Considering Smallville's ratings this season, especially the huge numbers that watched Absolute Justice, the show would have been the first one renewed.

I'm really concerned, Smallville has always been a favourite of mine, and I hope they get one more season.

And Lex must return. How about ending this season and doing another huge TV movie to top it all off? I would be happy with that.

  9. I'm glad Supernatural has been renewed but i hope they can take season 6 somewhere awesome after battling Lucifer during the curren series. I hope that Smallville gets another season at least because in my opinion the show has got better over time and it would be disappointing to end it right now. Lex should come back too =]

  10. Smallville is awesome! When it ends, it should segway to Justice League, and have that be the new series!

  11. I have enjoyed watching Smallville and it should continue with new season.

  12. i really hope that they take smallvilleinto its tenth season. bring in Apokolips and darkseid. his minions would really put some action into smallville next season cause they are all tough enough to beat clark physically and can have devious plans as has been the basis behind most of the show. not all about the physicallity of clark but its high time they get clark kickin some ass as well as takin beatings. i personally think that the doomsday battle was short lived. but i understand clark needing his humanity killed off. it was right for the continuation of smallville but they could have at least exchanged some blows that bust windows from impact and at least one building coming down.but hey what ya gonna do. its still my favorite show.

  13. Please smallville return for season 10!!! And Michael needs to come back to play lex that would make the 10th and final season even more awesome!!

Even though VD came from a book, it's still 'bitin' off True Blood…..VD is for all the girls who want to get their Twilight fix without Robert Pattison/Kristen Stewart, (and the Hot Ashley Greene, which is the real reason to see the movie) each week before New Moon hits DVD…..If you want an adult version of Vampires, get HBO and watch True Blood….
