supernatural season 8 Supernatural Stars Agree To Seasons 9 & 10 To End The Series?

UPDATE: ‘Supernatural’ Showrunner & Padalecki Ready for Season 11, 12 & Beyond

Supernatural season 8 is set to begin this October – but fans now have more than just a refreshed version of their favorite series to look forward to, as series stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles have announced that they’ve agreed to return for seasons 9 and 10.

Appearing at the Supernatural NJ Convention this weekend, Padalecki revealed to attending fans that he and Ackles intend to continue with the series into it its tenth season, if The CW continues to renew the show.

Padalecki and Ackles’ announcement appears to be falling in line with what new series showrunner, Jeremy Carver, previously told us about his goal of creating a story-arc that would lead Supernatural to the end in season 10.

Coming off of a few controversial seasons (in terms of quality), Supernatural fans may either love or hate the idea of their favorite hunters making it to year 10. However, unlike most series, Supernatural producers have admitted to the challenges they have faced as the series grows older, as well as what they’re going to do to make sure the show fans know and love will return – and stay – to its former greatness.

Having a series reach the ten-year mark on the air is a television miracle in its own right, but one that is able to maintain an expected level the quality throughout is almost unheard of. Though there have been a few missteps along the way, the return of Jeremy Carver – longtime Supernatural writer and Being Human (US) creator – as showrunner should help to breath new live into the cult series.

Now that Padalecki and Ackles are on board with the producers’ plans, Supernatural fans have to question whether this will be the final announcement of the continuation of the series. Following in the same path of Smallville, hitting season 10 may very well be the end of the series – either due to CW putting an end to it, or the stars looking to move on.

Ackles has already hinted that he’s been taking a note from Smallville’s Tom Welling working behind-the-scenes, perhaps revealing his post-Supernatural plans. Having directed some episodes of Supernatural, Ackles has previously stated that he’s indeed looking to break into the tight-knit circle of television directors.

That being said, if Supernatural seasons 8, 9, and 10 hit the ground running, the adventures of Sam and Dean may very well continue beyond year ten. Having moved Supernatural from its Friday time slot to Wednesday, The CW is certainly looking to use the show to help drive viewers into its core programming block. Combined with new series Arrow, The CW may very well create an extremely strong coupling that they’ll want to continue as long as possible.

Of course, since Supernatural season 10 is still more than two-years away from its (potential) premiere, it might be better to focus on what’s to come in season 8.

  1. The problem with a show like Supernatural is the same problem they had with the X-Files: There’s only so many “monster of the week” episodes you can do. We’ve had every kind of demon, angel, person, non-human entity and even the Devil himself take a part in this show, and while the seventh season arc did kinda lose track of what it was, season eight has pushed it back on those rails.

So, let’s recap here: Close the devil’s gate, then lose Dean to hell, then lose Sam, then Dean, then Sam, then the Apocalypse, then averting the Apocalypse, then Sam with no soul, then Sam with a soul, then Cas becoming God, then Leviathans, then tablets and prophets and mind-control – what else haven’t they tapped here?

It stands to reason that they need to go out on a big note, not draw out the series for another two years. The only logical way to end the series on a high note is to have the brothers lead new Hunters into the life, be it fast or slow, and then bow out with a stupid heroic sacrifice that cannot be overturned by any amount of back-door deals and magic. That’s the Sam and Dean we’ve come to know and love. They haven’t just jumped the shark, they’ve jumped it multiple times, refusing to say “The End”.

    • I love the show I think it is one of the best series on tv I enjoy watching u guys everyday on tv and the new episodes on weds. I hope I guys do one more season if possible. Love you guys . I am a fan and love supernatural

    • Nah i think they will finish by making the world like it is “in real life”,
they will succeed in closing the gates of hell automaticly driving all demons currently roaming earth back to hell

In season 9 they will probably discover there is also a way to close purgetory and banish all vampires, wendigo’s and other scary creatures the purgetory.

Then as finisher in season 10 they convince castiel to stop the angels from intervening with human lifes any further and close the gates of heaven. Making the only inhabitants of earth the humans.
Then there is no longer any need for hunters and sam and dean can finally retire and find normal lifes.

An epic sidenote would be if death gets reintroduced and succeeds in finally “killing” GOD like he stated he would eventually do

      • Sorry that was meant for “Jerry.”

      • That is what me and my girlfriend think!

    • This is an awesome show. Why should they end it. If its getting to ridiculous for you STOP WATCHING IT.

    • Because so many people still believe in God. They were able to kill Zeus, Cronos, some other gods because almost everyone has stopped believing in those deities; the deities draw their strength from their believers, so with only a handful of believers… not so much power, there. Because of Christianity, messing with God Himself in any way isn’t going to be as easy.

      • Even more than that, Islam, Judaism, and perhaps, and I stress this is my own philosophical idea Vishnu (from Hinduism), are all the same God, and thus he is super powerful.

  3. Now that time travel has been introduced what if the series ended with Sam deciding to go back in time and stopping himself from ever being born? (Butterfly Effect style) Like he has a realization that if he did not exist there would be no rising of Lucifer, no apocalypse and all the people he loved would still be alive. And Dean would grow up normal because his dad wouldn’t be hellbent on destroying demons and he’d have a construction job and a wife and kids but always thinking he was missing something. In the end the entire series of Supernatural would never have actually happened. I think that would be both an amazing and devastating way to end the series.

    • Wish you could direct that, that would be something. Good thoughts and ideas

    • If he stops himself from being born, he wouldn’t exist to begin with, so he couldn’t go back in time

      • Actually if you go with the quantum-dimension theory you will get a paralelluniverse by going back in time. So the Sam going back in time wont be the same self hes preventing to be born. Could work but I personally hate endings with “dreamed the whole thing” or “changed the past so nothing happened” plots.

Better to have them close heaven, hell and purgatory and banish all supernatural beings from earth thus ending the need for hunters

  4. I love the show, so I would be happy if it ended like Smallville with 10 seasons, since it has already been renewed for season 9; let’s hope season 10 will also be renewed :-)

  5. Personally, I really don’t think that they will manage to shut the gates of hell. They will most likely get really close to shutting them, but something ends up going haywire, causing the final trial to fail and thus leaving the demons to continue their havoc-inducing vacation on Earth. The reason I think this is because it seems like a lot of the show revolves around Demons as the main antagonist, or simply a important role. That, and ghosts(which is the only thing that they hunt anymore. Not saying that I don’t like it or anything.)

But no matter what happens in season 8 or 9, I have a feeling that both Dean and Sam will end up dieing in season 10, and this time their death will be permanent. Both of the brothers has stated it more than one time, “This job will kill them.”, and “There is no happy ending for us.”
I doubt that they would only kill one, and leave the other alive because that only make the fans b**** twice as much if they killed them both. Plus, we have already seen that one can barely live without the other(other than Sam finding his unicorn, stated by Meg, but even then he ended up being distraught.)

Well..I think I kinda overdid this comment. But yeah, that is what I think will happen.

  6. I love this show just started watching it a year ago.I am so hookedI have watched every episode at least twice and can’t wait for more.

  7. I still love this show and I have to admit that some of the episodes they do kinda suck but not all.
I would love to see and maybe be in future episodes.

  8. I’m from Australia and I totally luv the show. I am really glad that u are doing a season 9&10
Keep up the good work cause u totally rock

  9. When the show ends they need to end in a happy note. Sam finding love, getting married. Going back to university. Having kids. Thats who he is. Same with dean. He needs to find that one lady with a son. And have her remember who he is because they erased her memory. They both deserve normal jobs, lives, families and kids. I do not want the show to end stupid with one dying or time traveling. How lame is that! And yes im a female so i rather see sam and dean get married and live happily ever after. I want to see them in Movies now.

    • *cough*Dean and cas*cough* *cough*

    • You say ‘freaking awesome’ too!?
omg, ive started to say that far too often, i really think its because of Dean, honestly. I’m saying ‘awesome’ and ‘freaking’ far to much <3

A TEMPORADA INTEIRA! continueem fazendo One or two hunt for Episode!is better of the history how long the season! .

    • Hubby & I watch this series together too. Entire season 8 was great (will buy dvd when it comes out).

    • Hubby & I watch this series together too. Entire season 8 was great.

    • Hubby & I watch this series together too. Entire season was great.

  15. Isn’t carver edlund God?

    • Thats what I think, it would be great if he was.
The way he just ‘dissapeared’ and the fact he was wearing white too, I think are some indications that hes not just a profit of the Lord but something more~

  16. I love supernatural so much I watch the re runs everyday I am going to be sad when it finally goes off the air love you dean

  17. I think they should keep gooin with the series if u think about it its a good hit show the could continue with more angles the still have to get the angels back to heaven 1season finish the fight between the winchesters and the king of hell 2nd season what if the gates of hell got opend again demons got released 3rd season they could do alot to keep it goin i hope they do

  18. Well if u want my input I think that tha son of the devil should come and try to free is dad in Season 9 I think that would be nice

  19. This show’s pretty badass, man.

  20. After watching the series finale, I’m just happy there is still more to come. There is still mystery with the “third brother” still being locked up with Lucifer, The “Men of Letters”, The history of not just the Winchesters, but the Campbell’s too. And the big thought on everyone’s mind, The coming of God. Not to mention the title of the show “Supernatural” What new or old monsters will season 9 and 10 bring? How can they make one of the best shows on tv any better? Will this be the end? As a very big fan of this show, I’ll continue watching it until the writers call it quits. But I’ll try to come up with a spell to prevent that.

  21. I personally think that it’s one of the best shows CW has and to be honest i wouldn’t like it to finish on 10,i believed it has such a potential that it could well go 11,12,without fan being bored if they stick with a good arc then why not?Besides CW gets a lot of success and a good fan based all thanks to SUPERNATURAL..

  22. NOPE
The episode finali was absolutly freaking awesome, and there is so damn much they can use to play with that plot. Expecialy now all the Angels have fallen from heaven
I can see a return of Garbiel somewhere in here, and possibly Lucifer.
Also, whats going to happen to Crowley and will Sam be okay. Also Castiel, now hes a human things are going to be VERY different.
I can also see a very unfortunate fate for Metatron if Bobby, Joe, Ellen, Ash, Rufus and other hunters join forces in Heaven. That would be so brilliant!
What ever the writers are deciding its gonna be WONDERFUL! I just hope that supernatural lasts forever…mwuhahahahaha….

    • Awesome ending…entire season was great. The thought of Bobby, Joe, Ellen, Ash, Rufus, and other hunters in heaven joining forces actally gave me goosebumps!
      Yes, I”m a big fan.

  23. I couldn’t actually read out most of the comments here but do you guys actually think that they will try and clean the mess they made by undoing all they have done, if so my friends the show gonna drag for ages until we forget how it started in the first place. Now i’d love to be dumb here if you may;

How about if they put a good spin to it by ending the series as one of the bad dreams Dean had(or maybe Sam had for that matter)…. So they could go back to their so called normal/apple pie lives and live like normal humans who never had come across demons or angels. [Like i told you lot, i loved being dumb]

    • NOPE :o
wait…it would be an EVEN better twist if it suddenly paused in an episode then it just zoomed out really slowly, and then there’s just Gabriel…watching the television…..
