‘Supernatural’ Showrunner Reveals Season 10 Goal
‘Supernatural’ Producer Talks Season 7 Struggles; Season 8 Strategies
[WARNING - THIS POST CONTAINS SUPERNATURAL SEASON 7 SPOILERS!!!]
Like many series its age, Supernatural has had its fair share of problems during its seventh year on the air. But after seeing the Supernatural season 7 finale, has the series once again righted itself? And, more importantly, will you be tuning in when Supernatural makes its move to Wednesday for season 8?
From the continuous episodic stories that rarely progressed the plot, to the introduction of one of the most powerful, though completely non-frightening, monsters in supposed series history, many fans were worried that perhaps their favorite series had lost its way. While the season 7 finale did little prove that the series will be returning to a familiar, enjoyable path, perhaps there’s still hope for Supernatural season 8.
Splitting up Sam and Dean for the beginning of next season, there’s at least a tangible obstacle for one of the Winchesters to overcome. With Dean being stuck in Purgatory with (maybe) Castiel, it’ll be interesting to see the series depict a setting that has only been described up until this point, even within its limited budget.
That being said, who knows exactly how long Sam and Dean will be separated. While the character of Dean has previously carried long story-arcs on his own, the general uncertainty that Sam is left in really doesn’t provide for a compelling lengthy solo storyline. With Crowley and Castiel (hopefully) returning, perhaps the producers will make use of those rich characters to help Supernatural make its way out of its unfortunate season 7 hole.
That said, it’s doubtful that many fans will give much leeway to the series spending any significant amount of time with Castiel’s “issues,” there’s more than enough depth to all of the series’ characters to craft some type of competent storyline that will somehow make us forget all about the Leviathan. Perhaps one that builds towards providing a definite end to the series as a whole?
While we’ll have to wait until this fall to see how Supernatural responds to this season’s complaints, it’s hard to believe that Supernatural would return to the path that caused so many problems for the series during season 7. With former series writer Jeremy Carver taking over for Sera Gamble as showrunner in season 8, as well as fan-favorites Ben Edlund and Adam Glass remaining on the series, Supernatural still contains the same high caliber of talent that it always had.
They just need to put it to good use.

Can’t afford sky, but will always find the money to buy the DVD’s for season 8, CAN’T WAIT FOR SEASON 8! Love it!
THANK GOD! I can’t wait to see the new season. After the season 7 conclusion I just about flipped when Dean was surrounded, Cas vanished, and it all faded to black. I thought “Hell No! They cannot end it like this!”, So I searched around and finally found this Great News!
I also heard that there are talks of Jensen (Dean) and Jared (Sam) possibly signing a new contract through season 10 IF 8 goes well that is. The contracts will be up after season 8, so I guess all we can do as Die Hard Supernatural fans is HOPE that they sign on that dotted line and keep the show going. I know a TON of people who would be pretty devastated if not. I mean I know it has to end sometime, But, Not like it did in season 7, and hopefully not for quite a few more years. HANDS DOWN…THE BEST SHOW ON TELEVISION! SO WHY NOT RIDE IT TILL THE WHEELS FALL OFF.
I’ve seen first 8 eps of season 8 and it’s not gonna disappoint. I hope it goes on for a long time to come. Just hope they bring Lucifer back somehow. I can tell you the cover for season 8 dvd has Dean sporting white wings and Sam with black wings and swords in their hands. So going to watch next 8 eps tonight. I won’t spoil it for anyone, don’t fret.
Has season 8 came out yet and if when is it gunna come out? Big fan of supernatural!!!!!
Supernatural is the best show on tv watch nothing but it my favorite charactor is Castiel because he very cute great personality and he is a great person to call on if you need help!!!! AND HE’S SUPER FUNNY!!!
We love this series! Will be adding season 8(and 9&10) to our dvd collection. Hoping they bring Bobby back!
Does anyone have any idea when they come out? I own all of them that are out so far. Can’t wait to add the rest
The problem with ‘Supernatural’ is that the only way it is enjoyable is if one is nearly completely biblically illiterate. I’ve managed to get through five seasons, but just. As a person who has spent decades studying church history, theology, and the Bible, ‘Supernatural’ is quite frustrating to watch. It is a bit embarrassing to watch the writers of the series muddle around with things about which they have no clue.
I’m all for playing with the biblical concepts of angels, demons, God, and the Apocalypse, but Jiminy Cricket, this show is so far out in left-field that it isn’t even in the ballpark anymore.
It is like someone getting out chess pieces, a Pop-It bubble, some Monopoly cards, tossing them all on a Twister mat, and then saying, “Hey, let’s play chess!” You might be playing with chess pieces, but you can’t call the game “chess” any longer.
I love the monster and ghost hunting episodes of ‘Supernatural.’ I love the dynamic between Sam and Dean. I love the car, and the guns, and the other various monster hunting gadgets. I just wish the writers would have TRIED to learn SOMETHING about God, the Bible, angels, demons, and the rest of the stuff they use as props for their stories.
I kept watching, hoping the whole demon/angel/apocalypse story-arc would play out, but it is obvious now that the show is married to that particular mess for the rest of its run.
(A good place to start: stop calling it “Revelations.” The name of the book is “Revelation,” as in “The Revelation of Jesus Christ,” or, more properly, “The Apocalypse of Jesus Christ.” When a writer can’t even get the name of their “source material” right, that is a strong indication the rest of their theological understanding is hokum.)
Anyway. /rant
