The CW’s hit paranormal adventure Supernatural will be rolling out the blood-stained red carpet for sci-fi royalty Amanda Tapping (Stargate, Sanctuary) who will have a major recurring role in season 8. Tapping will playing a mysterious new breed of angel named Naomi - who, according to Supernatural showrunner Jeremy Carver, "we’ve never seen before."

Debuting in episode 7 of season 8, tentatively titled ‘A Little Slice of Kevin’ - Naomi appears to be a buttoned-up bureaucrat with a hard, no-nonsense demeanor – similar to Matt Damon's character in The Good Shepherd. Despite her proficient manner, Naomi is far less put-together than she appears to be, as she works hard to hide her underused emotions.

Tapping has been a genre-favorite for years, most notably due to her portrayal of Colonel Samantha Carter in the Stargate television franchise, as well as the immortal Doctor Helen Magnus on Syfy network’s recently-cancelled Sanctuary.

Supernatural season 8 will see the not-so-sweet reunion of brothers Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) Winchester, following Dean’s year-long stay in Purgatory. Breaking your way out of a demon-filled dimension isn’t easy, (despite Dean’s penchant for getting trapped in them), so he receives help from a less-than-ideal ally – a vampire named Benny, played by Battlestar Galactica alum, Ty Olsson. However, Benny’s assistance doesn’t come without a price: he will be returning to earth with Dean to further complicate the brothers’ already strained relationship.

Joining Tapping and Olsson this season is veteran actor Mike Farrell, best known for his role as Captain B.J. Hunnicutt on the iconic series M.A.S.H.  Farrell will star in episode 8 as "an aging mentalist with a slippery grasp on reality." Not much is known about Farrell’s role on the series beyond that – especially whose side he’ll be on - but either way he’ll most likely end up causing problems for the Winchester boys.
