The tale of the Winchester brothers will continue for another year, as The CW announced today that they have officially renewed Supernatural for season 8 – but could this be Supernatural’s final bow?
Despite an unconventional seventh season, news of Supernatural’s renewal isn’t likely to shock fans of the series. With news of showrunner Sera Gamble being replaced with Syfy’s Being Human showrunner Jeremy Carver – who formerly served as a producer on Supernatural - it left little debate about its chances for renewal.
For fans, their concern lies largely in what the focus of the series will be, as it heads into its eighth year on the air. Supernatural’s season 7 nemesis, the Leviathans, appropriately became a “C” storyline rather than a direct focus, fans began to wonder what had happened to the series they faithfully watched for many years.
Instead of an overarching story that was driven by each episode, Supernatural’s seventh season quickly became disjointed with its storytelling. While nobody will argue against shifting focus away from the “evil” Leviathans and their intentions of taking over the world corporate-style, a litany of self-contained episodes that didn’t really go anywhere wasn’t really much of an upgrade.
Fortunately, Supernatural has never really been a series where continuous issues brought concerns about renewal. With mistakes largely occurring few and far between, fans of the series are typically more forgiving than fans of other shows.
Even if Supernatural can turn things around and make an amazing eighth season, could this be the series’ final run – no matter what?
When Supernatural stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles resigned their contracts for the series last year, it was for two additional seasons (7 and 8). So after next season, both actors would have to renew their contracts.
While only Ackles and Padalecki can say for sure, it’s becoming more difficult to believe that they would want to continue the series into its ninth or tenth year. And after this season, there are certainly some fans who don’t feel like it even should. Of course that doesn’t mean that it won’t – I suppose it’s something we’ll just have to wait and see in the Supernatural season 7 finale.
Now we just have to figure out a way to get Castiel (Misha Collins) back… and Bobby (Jim Beaver) back from being dead.

Season 7 was good in my opinion aside from the whole Corporate Leviathan take over. I feel that could’ve been done better! But a some things I’d like to see in future episodes:
1) GOD. For heavens sake, when will we see the real God? I’ve been waiting to see him since Cas had the idea to track him down and have him end the Apocalypse. I would like to know what His true plan was for the world and why did he decide to stay out of it?
2) Michael and Lucifer death match. Can someone please let these two out of the cage and let us see a death match? I wanted to see something like that but instead everyone just went and died in a hole…literally.
3) Make Season 6 and 7 all a dream. Preferrably Sam’s dream, that would make up for all the confusion and hazy storylines.
4) I’ve heard rumblings about bringing in the Holy Trinity. I don’t know much about that but it could be an interesting plot. Dean the Father, Sam the Son and Bobby as the Holy Spirit.
5) Bring back the rock music, bring back the Impala and bring back the humor! Also bring back the tough Dean like in Season 4.
6) Make it go 10 seasons please!! Put it up there with the best shows of all time!

I Think supernatural should go on,its a show I look forward to tune in and sit back and enjoy a good show down….unlike the other ppl who talk s*** about the show,there r not the one that follow up the show 8 years ago so f*** them…..if it was up to me I would a find a way to take it a next 8 more years….keep the show going bro

. They can bring “Death” back, saving dean and cass from purgatory, and die trying. HENCE, chaos! people not dying… Crowly tries to rule the earth. then enters “the God”. bobby becomes new death(or someone more aprop). Say what u want, i liked dick roaman. he must come back to have some payback from crowly for the betrayal. This maybe a good theme or it may also be “sucking and too chaotic”. STILL TAKE THE SERIES to atleast the 10th season….
I’m such a fan of the show. I’ll continue watching no matter what happens, but I totally agree with what Brad Dean said, especially about the Impala. Our Boys need THEIR car!

That goes for me, I would watch till the end. It could be so close to the actual truth – who know’s. Let’s just hope that they decide to renew their contracts. If not it would be a great shame. After all they stand for HOPE for goodness sakes…

Love the show a lot and all the ideas came up with. I came up with a idea for a new breed of characters called the watchers that are all about balance that would, support both light and darkness when either side gets out of line and unbalance they step in. Just a idea love the show and hope it keeps going.

Hi. It’s me again for the idea I came up with on the watchers I also came up with a plot. Their must be balanced maintained in the universe or else hell, heaven and purgatory will fall to earth. God created all living things so theirs no way he would want any of them completely destroyed so he made the balance to keep them in check. The watchers I came up with are the police force that governs and makes shure the balance is kept. well again just a idea but love the show.

Sorry, don’t agree with any criticism on the show. simply love it. I would like to have Dean’s humor back. but everything else I love it. don’t care much about the dream idea, two seasons or one turned into it was all a dream? naaa. I even like it when its just them hunting down demons, ghosts, and so on. Love Supernatural, I would love it to continue.

I wish I could say I have been a fan since the shows start,but that does not mean I am not a true fan.It was my husband’s favorite show and when we first started dating in March of 2011,he asked me to check it out.The first episode I watched was Swan Song from season 5.It sucked me in right then and there!I went to netflix and watched every season then went out and bought season 6. While I agree that season 7 could have been better,and I am utterly pissed that Bobby is gone,I still love the show with all of my heart!And glad to have Cas back.And I do understand others veiws about ending the show,but hey then don’t watch it.Not being rude,just stating the facts.I disagree about Lisa.I have never liked her with Dean. I think she is beautiful and a good mother,but there is one and one person only that Dean should have been with and that is Jo.I think it’s crap that they got rid of Jo and Ellen in season 5,but there’s nothing we could do..I agree,bring John back,after everything he did for those boys,he deserves to come back.And I think they should find a way to release Adam.He is still their brother..Idk I wish that Jo,Ellen,Belthazar,Bobby, Adam,John and Gabriel could come back!I love them but I know that is a long shot!Even though I have only been a fan for a year,I am still a die hard one and I am extremly stoked for the new season.My husband, my sister and my friend Alyssa all are!I don’t know what else to say other then that!
Season to season the stakes go higher, the scale of the main conflict increases. Is there any possibility for further inflation? Next level is God level, and above that – what comes above that?
By the end of Season 7, Dean and Cas are stuck in the purgatory, and getting out of it has plot potential for the whole eighth season.
Apart from that, the following would be nice:
1. More ordinary hunting jobs, not biblical proportgion quests.
2. More social interaction for Sam and Dean. They are outlaws, how are they fairing?
3. Impala must be.
4. Season 7 lacks humour. Hope season 8 will compensate for that
5.The dead should stay dead. Otherise the death itself is robbed of its meaning. After Wunchesters started marching from dead to alive like it’s a casual thing, it just ain’t scary anymore.
I love this show, and I would love to see a show where John Winchester comes back in the finally. Because it seems that all the great shows must come to an end, I loved him in Greys Anatomomy, and I;m surprised that he
has not been in more movies. Every caractor in this show has been wonderful, and I will miss this show, but I know all good things must come to an end. When you watch a show that makes you laugh and cry, and JUMP through the years you know that you have watched a great show,I used to watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Angel, and it has been great to see shows to come like Bones and I can’t remember Michele’s Gellers series name but the finnaly was ripped away from us, I just wish all the actors nothing but much success, I will miss this show terribly. But they will live on in sindication. It;s been a great ride, and I did cry whem we lost John, Cas, Bobby, but I wil watch all the repeats. Great Great Show.

I love this show and I hope it’s not the last season. There’s still a lot that can be done and I hope Jensen and Jared are up for it. You guys have quite the following if you don’t know that already. I do agree that Bobby, Castiel and Baby (the car) all need to come back along with the music, humor and Dean being a bad ass. Season 7 was makin ya kinda whimpy there Dean! I look forward to watching this every week and still watch the reruns on TNT before I go to work. Yep, gotta keep these hottie boys on! Please!

I have to say this is by far the best show on tv. I love everything supernatural and this show brings it all together. Yes the funny tough Dean should come back out. I agree with Brad I think it was that the last season being all a dream of Sams would be good but also i wanna see how Dean and Cas get out of pergatory. But being a dream would be one way to get Bobby back. I also think it would be cool to get John back, heck go all out n bring back Jo n Ellen n everyone too. No matter what they decide to do with the show I know me and husband will watch it for as long it airs. We’ve already watched the entire series up to now twice n might go for round 3 before season 8 hits who knows. But as far as letting it end … NO WAY! People that are not into enough to continue watching shouldnt spoil it for those of us who continue to be enternained by this wonderful series no matter where they take the story. I suppose I’ve ranted on enough, but one thing is for sure… My whole family loves this show and will watch it as long as it airs n rewatch it when its unfortuneately over. Im sure even my kids will enjoy it when they get a little older but all being under 7 yrs old I keep them on cartoons and educationals for now lol… But one day

I think supernatural should renew for a season 9 I love the show & the actors & the charectors I’ve watched every episode every season & I would be disappointed if they stopped at season 8. Supernatural is to good to end. I say do it go for season 9 <3
am i the only one who doesn’t care if it makes it to season 9? i mean, sure, i LOVE this show. but i watch for the story. if season 8 competes their story, and leaves me satisfied with the ending, then i will be glad it stopped. if season 8 is s***, then I’ll be upset, sure.
also: stop saying to bring back bobby! he died and that was hard enough on the boys. what will bringing him back accomplish, besides Fan Service? i demand story, not fan service. Story is why i fell in love with this show.

You could make it a dream because Lucifer told Dean that he was still in the cell with him and that it’s all just a dream. Well, make it so. And yes bring back the Music, the Impala, Cass, and Bobby. All of them together is what made the show worth watching. Not that I don’t love Jarrod and Jensen because I most certainly do. But it was all of them as a team that made me come back to watch EVERY WEEK. Just sayin…
