Former Screen Rant writer Jamie Williams is dropping a big exclusive over at his site Think McFly Think. Word is that Warner Bros. is so impressed with the early results of Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot, Man of Steel, that they’re already looking ahead toward getting the balling rolling on a sequel.

Specifically, the studio is said to have commissioned some high-profile writers to begin scripting the story to Man of Steel 2, and we’ve got word on who is doing the job.

This news will surely come as a surprise to some (and a promising omen to others); there has been a lot of debate raging about the approach that Snyder and Co. are taking with Man of Steel. It looks more and more like the film will deliver a slightly tweaked version of Superman – possibly (read: very likely) reflecting the recent changes to the character that have been made during DC Comics’ “New 52″ launch, a recent reboot of its comic book universe in which classic superheroes have been retooled for modern times (and better aligned with the multimedia agenda of DC Entertainment).

As for the writers who have been tapped to pen the early draft of the Man of Steel sequel: we’ve posted a list of names below (courtesy of TMT), with a few of their writing credits:

A talented pool of writers who will each have a chance to show their stuff in some upcoming blockbuster films.

Man of Steel will be in production until early next year, and will then undergo another year’s worth of post-production effects work and marketing before it finally lands in theaters in the summer of 2013. The script for the film was concocted by David S. Goyer and Chris Nolan, so needless to say, expectations are high for this one. If TMT‘s sources inside Warner Bros. are right, then it sounds like Zack Snyder and his cast of talented actors – including Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Michael Shannon, Russell Crowe, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane – have met those expectations.

Henry Cavill Compares Man of Steel to The New 52 Superman Man of Steel 2 Script Already in the Works?

Cavill as Superman & the "New 52" version of Supes.

Of course, most of the weight of the film will rest on the shoulders of Henry Cavill, who plays Superman/Clark Kent. Cavill’s off to a go start, though, as his Greek Myth epic Immortals came in number one at the box office during its opening weekend. Out of many criticisms some people leveled at that film, Cavill’s acting wasn’t really one of the more echoed complaints. Good sign?

We’ll find out for sure once Man of Steel hits theaters on June 14, 2013

No word on when, specifically, Warner Bros. hopes to get Man of Steel 2 in theaters.

  1. You know its sort of ironic, funny and interesting how this article about ‘Man of Steel 2′ script already being in the works; comes from what was written on a fellows web page titled:

“Think Mcfly Think” Because if you do think about it. This is really nothing new. After all, wasn’t Back 2 the Future 2 & 3 filmed at the same time? :D Granted they already had the major critical and finacial success of the first film to back them. But it still was sort of a risky move.

But nothing compared to the risk New Line Cinema took with allowing Peter Jackson to film all three stories from the Lord of the Rings Book Trilogy, at the same time. All they had to go on, was two things.Their belief in the talent and work ethic of those involved in making the films, and the decades worth of fanbase that the works of J.R.R. Tolkien has.And their faith was rewarded :)

Superman also has fans and admirers from way back, before the birth of Applejacks (cereal) :P Who love him and want to see new dynamic stories and adventures in which he stars.Zack Synder, Christopher Nolan and Co. seem to wish to answer this call.I wish them all the best, and I know that as long as they apply themselves as they have on previous projects like The Dark Knight, Watchmen, Memento and 300.We have nothing to be alarmed about.

And given the support that they are receiving from Warner Bros. they must feel the same way about their potential.

  2. Kofi, what do you think about this link. Possible Serious Spoilers but it sounds like it could have some ground to stand on.

  3. All i care about is seeing darkseid in a superman sequel, been waiting for that for many years him & then skeletor on the big screen. when that time finally comes i may never go to the movies again.

  4. I heard some nonsense to the effect that they changed Superman’s look so it wouldn’t appear that he was wearing his underwear on the outside.
If that is so, they should get rid of that silly “S” that covers his chest and replace it with a meaningful Kryptonian symbol that would signify something. If we are going to get that serious about a comic book character, get rid of the cape also. In reality, can you imagine how tangled up in a cape he would get doing his stuff?

    • Agree, removing the red trunks was a bad thing in my opinion!

    • The “S” IS Kryptonian. There’ve been THREE explanations for it.

      1) It stands for “super”.
      2) In Kryptonian, it means, “hope”.
      3) It’s the House of El (as in Kal-EL)’s family crest.

    • The S is the house of el’s symbol its his family crest so it does mean something the fact its an S just makes it awsome coincidence with his name being superman on the movie it looks epic! finally am ovie that everyones been waiting for none of this comedy lex luthor stuff a proper battle with a powerful enemy and a serious feel to it i hope darksied is in the sequel!

  5. Personally, I always wanted to see Hulk vs Superman. Yes I know, two different universes. I was very skeptical with the return of Zod, etc. Snyder and company did a good job and congrats to the cast and crew. The Lex Luthor story is a little old, but unless Darkseid or others can be infused-I am sure Nolan/Snyder can work a miracle. There were 4 actors from the Smallville TV series that were in Man of Steel. The young Clark Kent, that saved the bus looked a lot like Tom Welling. That was awesome. I hope to see more Smallvile alum and some cameos. And just a few notes or more of the original score–original always gives you a feeling of triumph. Two more things: How about some night scenes with Lois and Clark or Superman coming to the rescue. Man of Steel scenes all shot during the day. Yuck. Lastly, bring Doomsday in before the trilogy is over!!
