Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have released the first image of Henry Cavill as Superman in Zack Snyder's reboot film, Man of Steel. This comes on the heels of images of Cavill sporting "Man of Steel hair" and describing how it felt to wear the Superman suit.

But will fans embrace this version of Superman? Or will they nitpick the suit, the look of the actor, and the overall tone of Snyder's film to death, based on this one image?

In my experience working on the Interweb, it will most likely be the latter. But I digress.

Snyder's film will explore Clark Kent's early days and his transition into becoming the world's greatest superhero. While the script by and story from David S. Goyer and Chris Nolan have been kept secret, rumor points to several popular Superman storylines ("Secret Origin", "Superman: Birthright") having a direct influence on this reboot film.

As for the cast of the film: A Warner Bros. Press release confirms a lot of the casting we already knew about ;-):

The film stars three-time Oscar® nominee Amy Adams (“The Fighter”) as Daily Planet journalist Lois Lane, and Oscar® nominee Laurence Fishburne (“What’s Love Got to Do with It”) as her editor-in-chief, Perry White.  Starring as Clark Kent’s adoptive parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent, are Oscar® nominee Diane Lane (“Unfaithful”) and Academy Award® winner Kevin Costner (“Dances with Wolves”).

Squaring off against the superhero are two other surviving Kryptonians, the villainous General Zod, played by Oscar® nominee Michael Shannon (“Revolutionary Road”), and Faora, Zod’s evil partner, played by Antje Traue.  Also from Superman’s native Krypton are Lara Lor-Van, Superman’s mother, played by Julia Ormond, and Superman’s father, Jor-El, portrayed by Academy Award® winner Russell Crowe (“Gladiator”).

Rounding out the cast are Harry Lennix as U.S. military man General Swanwick, as well as Christopher Meloni as Colonel Hardy.

The screenplay was written by David S. Goyer, from a story by Goyer and Nolan, based upon Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster and published by DC Comics.

As for this image: It reveals the Superman suit which will be used in Snyder's film, how Henry Cavill looks in the role, and tries to play up the physics of a Superman world. Check it out below:

Already fans are picking apart everything from the look of the suit ("It's like he got it from the Nike store!") to the length of the cape, to the hairdo, to the expression on Cavill's face (too much scowl, not enough...what? Smiles?).

For our part, the suit looks pretty good. Iconic, yet modern, in the vein of the upcoming rebooted comic book version of Superman. This picture also does a good job of depicting the fact that Superman is a super-strong being, which is an aspect of the character Snyder has said he wants to focus on. This should be good news for all of you out there who have been wishing for an epic, building-leaping, metal-crushing, high-flying Superman flick. You want Superman action, this image (if it's a hint of things to come) is Superman in action.

As for the hairstyle - we're not salon stylists, but it does make sense that as Superman he would have a hairstyle that was totally different, thereby distancing his superhero self from his mild-mannered alter-ego. The fact that Clark and Superman both had the relative same hairstyle in the comics never really made sense to me (a pair of glasses can't disguise things that well).
