The fate of Superman & Lois and Gotham Knights will soon be decided as The CW might only renew one of the two remaining DC TV shows. The Arrowverse is winding down as The Flash season 9 is wrapping up the Earth-Prime side of the franchise. While the Grant Gustin-starring series has had its fate determined, Superman & Lois and Gotham Knights are still airing as they are in the midst of their respective seasons. Given all the changes at The CW over the last year, many have been wondering what will happen to DC TV on the network after this ongoing TV season.

The CW has begun to hand out its renewals for the 2023-2024 TV season while also canceling several shows. As of now, Superman & Lois, Gotham Knights, and All American: Homecoming have yet to be picked up, and it looks like only one of the DC TV dramas will survive. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network is expected only to renew one of the DC TV shows for next season.

Which DC TV Show Will The CW Likely Renew

With the previous regime, The CW would have almost definitively renewed both Superman & Lois and Gotham Knights, if only to give them one final season. But with the new bosses at The CW, things are getting trickier because the expectations are now completely different. As mentioned in the report, Superman & Lois is the show that gets more viewers out of the two. However, Superman & Lois has, to no surprise, been the more expensive DC TV show. Even though The CW has renewed All American and Walker, which have been two of their most viewed series, they may have been picked up for another season because of production costs.

When looking at Superman & Lois, the expenses that come with making the Arrowverse drama may not be worth it for The CW. Gotham Knights, which isn't as VFX-heavy as Superman & Lois, could make more sense for the new CW bosses, even if they have lower ratings. If Superman & Lois season 4 were to happen, it's possible that they would have to make some cuts within the show's production in order. But having to make all those cuts may also be to Superman & Lois' disadvantage, which could increase chances for Gotham Knights season 2.

At the end of the day, there is always the possibility that The CW may not bring back either show and instead favor All American: Homecoming. The reports about them having three to four original scripted shows next season is still to be determined as The CW is restructuring its programming strategy. Luckily, the world will soon know whether it is Superman & Lois or Gotham Knights that get picked up for another season.
