When you stop to consider all the waffling back and forth that went on with regard to whether or not CBS’ Supergirl would find herself in the company of The CW’s The Flash or even Arrow, it seemed like no matter how loudly fans called for a cross-network crossover between the DC Television heroes, it would always be something wished for but never actually seen. But then came word the powers that be had worked a deal to allow Kara Danvers and Barry Allen a shot at an interdimensional team up.

After a few weeks of assuring fans their respective crossover dreams were in fact about to come true, and even teasing the characters’ encounter via a promotional poster that evokes memories of a certain Superman comic cover, CBS issued a brief teaser in which Kara and Barry prepared to see who was faster. While that brief glimpse was likely enough to sell the crossover to even the most ardent disbeliever, it still didn’t offer up much in the way of actual details from the episode in question.

Now, with only a week to go until its premiere, a full trailer for the episode has finally been made available. While it begins with the familiar “on your marks, get set, go!” of the brief teaser from before, the entire promo makes great use of the additional time it’s been given to highlight various facets of the superhero encounter. While it doesn’t go into much detail regarding the how and why of Barry’s arrival in National City, it does make it clear the appearance of the Scarlet Speedster doesn’t go unnoticed by Cat Grant – or unappreciated by Kara.

For those still unsure what ‘World’s Finest’ intends to do with its two heroes, the official synopsis should offer some clarification:

“Kara gains a new ally when the lightning-fast superhero The Flash suddenly appears from an alternate universe and helps Kara battle Siobhan, aka Silver Banshee, and Livewire in exchange for her help in finding a way to return him home.”

As Kara mentions, she and The Flash will be tasked with catching the bad girls and that their adventure together will also include an “85 percent chance of punching.” That’s not a bad percentage when it comes to superheroes teaming up to take down a pair of villains like Silver Banshee and Livewire. In fact, it’s probably better than most days when it comes to The Flash and Supergirl using their powers to protect their respective cities.

While it’s sort of a foregone conclusion there will be at least some punching going on in the span of ‘Worlds Finest,’ it is worth noting who will be delivering and who will be the intended recipient of said punches. As the trailer makes perfectly clear, Supergirl-The Flash are breaking the 2016 superhero-crossover mold by not having their encounter begin (or end) with some disagreement that sees the two engaged in fisticuffs – no matter how brief. Instead, there seems to be a healthy rivalry forming between the two, with Barry willing to put his status as the fastest man alive on the line by finding out just how much faster “faster than a speeding bullet” might actually be.

However things pan out between the two (and considering their sunnier dispositions, it’s a good bet that handshake will be the first of many) its clear CBS and The CW are aiming to make this the sort of crossover fans will be asking for more of.

The SupergirlThe Flash crossover episode, ‘Worlds Finest,’ airs next Monday @8pm on CBS.
