Dichen Lachman is likely best known to fans of superhero TV for her role as Jiaying - the leader of a secret Inhuman community, as well as Skye/Daisy's (Chloe Bennet) biological mother - on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. during its second season. Lachman has also played recurring roles on such TV series as The Last Ship, Shameless and The 100 in recent years; after having played one of the main characters, "Sierra", on Avengers director Joss Whedon's sci-fi TV show, Dollhouse.

Next in line for Lachman is a role as part of The CW's Arrowverse, in the form of DC Comics villain Roulette in the upcoming Supergirl season 2 episode, 'Survivors'. Images from the episode are now online, revealing Lachman's straight-from-the-comics look as the underground gambling maven that is Roulette.

A fairly modern addition to the DC Comics communal rogues gallery, Roulette is a crime boss whose focus is gambling and games of chance related to metahumans. This makes her an easy fit for stories involving many different scenarios and types of characters in the DC Universe, making her a frequent subject for mass-media adaptations. Versions of the character have appeared previously in both the DC Animated Universe and Smallville, with Lachman now being the second person to play Roulette in a live-action series.

Scheduled to air on Monday October 31, 'Survivors' looks to continue Supergirl's emerging season 2 focus on the difficulties faced by alien immigrants to Earth. In the episode, Roulette is the proprietor of an underground illegal fighting arena where aliens are compelled (and, likely, forced) to fight in hand-to-hand combat for the amusement of human bettors. The trailer for 'Survivors' shows Supergirl, Martian Manhunter and newcomer Miss Martian competing in the arena, though in what context remains to be seen. Both the trailer and images from 'Survivors' also show Alex Danvers and Detective Maggie Sawyer teaming up (again) to infiltrate the club in the guise of patrons. While initially hostile, the latter pair had since developed a notable chemistry and may even be on their way to becoming a romantic couple. Meanwhile, the newly-awaken Mon-El (Chris Wood) and Winn appear to be forming a bond themselves, judging by the 'Survivors' images.

It remains to be revealed if Roulette will be a one-off enemy or part of Supergirl's growing roster of recurring enemies. Season 2 has now introduced several new major female characters with differing motivations concerning the issue of alien visitors; among them, the U.S. president (played by Lynda Carter), who is sympathetic to the aliens, and Lena "sister of Lex" Luthor, who is (unsurprisingly) more suspicious of Earth's visitors. How Roulette fits into that picture, that will soon be revealed.
