Since the show’s move from CBS to The CW for its second season, Supergirl has focused even more on all aspects of life in National City affected by alien refugees living among humans. Anti-alien prejudice has been a theme explored in many aspects of season 2, from the anti-alien organization Cadmus to Winn’s (Jeremy Jordan) budding relationship with the Starhaven alien Lyra (Tamzin Merchant). Early in season 2, Kara (Melissa Benoist) was even forced to confront her own Krypton-born prejudices against Daxam upon Mon-El (Chris Wood) crash landing on Earth in the season 1 finale.
In the first run of season 2 episodes, Mon-El told Kara he had been a palace guard on Daxam, escaping in the Kryptonian pod prior to the planet’s destruction. However, a teaser at the tail end of the midseason finale, ‘Medusa’, revealed he was being pursued by an alien spaceship, while it has since been revealed he is the crown prince of Daxam – contrary to what he told Kara. The aliens pursuing Mon-El were revealed in last week’s episode of Supergirl, ‘Exodus’, being played by Teri Hatcher and Kevin Sorbo. Now new photos feature the characters and their meeting with Mon-El.
EW debuted eight hi-res photos from the upcoming episode of Supergirl, ‘Star-Crossed’, that feature Mon-El and Kara as well as the new alien arrivals: Rhea (Hatcher) and Lar Gand (Sorbo). Although the images don’t reveal any of the other Supergirl characters, the majority of them appear to be set on the alien spacecraft, while the two solo shots of Rhea feature her in the DEO. Take a look in the gallery below:
Of course, fans suspected that Sorbo would play Lar Gand – another name for the character of Mon-El in the DC Comics – after he teased he’d be playing a villain from a “rival planet of Krypton.” More puzzling is Hatcher’s character Rhea, who doesn’t appear to be adapted from the DC Comics. There are two characters named Rhea in the comic universe, but one is a goddess and the other a metahuman and it’s unclear if either of these served as inspiration for Hatcher’s role.
Still, it’s unclear what exactly Lar Gand and Rhea want with Mon-El, especially since the trailer for Supergirl’s ‘Star-Crossed’ confirms he is, in fact, the prince of Daxam – much to the apparent dismay of Kara. The synopsis for the episode reveals Hatcher’s Rhea as a villain, but doesn’t tease how Lar Gand fits into the equation. Despite the synopsis, the trailer, and these new images, we still don’t know much about what to expect from Supergirl’s new arrivals. But, fans will likely receive some answers when the show’s next episode debuts in less than a week.
Supergirl continues Monday, March 20 with ‘Star-Crossed’ at 8pm on The CW.
