Official images from the Supergirl season 3 premiere episode offer fans their first look at some new and updated characters this season. Following the events of Supergirl season 2, Kara and her friends will be facing a new status quo when the show returns. With Mon-El gone, Kara will throw herself into her work as Supergirl. For once, that might be a good thing, as National City is set to face a number of new and dangerous rogues.

A few months ago, we got our first look at some character breakdowns showcasing the villains that will be joining Supergirl season 3. Among them will be Reign, a member of the Kryptonian-bred Worldkillers from the comics. On the show, she will arrive in the guise of Sam (played by Odette Annable), who will slowly be consumed by her alter-ego. When she gives in at last, Reign will offer Supergirl with a powerful archenemy, even while lesser foes conspire around the Kryptonian. Now, some images from the premiere episode of season 3 offer us our first look at Reign and other newcomers this season.

The CW has also released a fresh poster for Supergirl season 3 along with a batch of images taken from the season’s premiere episode, ‘Girl of Steel’. In the images, we can see Annable as Sam along with her daughter Ruby. There are also plenty of shots of Kara, Alex, Maggie, and more, including the new Alura. Check out the poster and the episode images below:

From the looks of things, the premiere will kick of with a celebration of Supergirl hosted by Lena Luthor. From there, things will go south while Kara, Alex, and the rest of the gang scramble to help. We also see Sam and her daughter Ruby caught in the struggle. While it almost appears as if Ruby is killed in the chaos, we know she’s meant to be a series regular. Either way, this moment could be the catalyst that turns Sam into Reign.

The new photos also offer us our first look at Erica Durance as Alura. We has already learned of the recasting, but here we can see that some sort of dream-like state will allow Kara to interact with her mother directly. For fans of Smallville, Durance’s casting will be a welcome one.

Along with the images, The CW has dropped multiple promos that hint at some of the elements that we will see in the Supergirl season 3 premiere and beyond. All signs seem to point towards lots of devastation coming to National City this year, so hopefully Kara will be up for the challenge.
