Supergirl has announced several of the actors who will be joining the show for its third season, including Adrian Pasdar, Carl Lumbly, Yael Grobglas and Emma Tremblay. The announcements come via SDCC, where the CW showed off some of the things that fans can expect to see in the coming season. The network also made a big deal of welcoming their newest DC superhero, Black Lightning, with a sizzle reel that puts him front and center.

The Supergirl news revealed at the con focuses on new characters that will be joining the show for its third season - in addition to the return of fan favorite Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart), who was additionally announced as returning this weekend. While there are sure to be plenty of new characters on the way for season 3, four in particular are the focus of the latest announcement.

Supergirl will be adding Adrian Pasdar as Morgan Edge, a real estate developer with ruthless plans for National City. Carl Lumbly will be portraying comic book  Martian M’yrnn J’onzz, the father of Martian Manhunter, and Yael Grobglas will be taking on another comic character - Psi, a psychic villain. Finally, Emma Tremblay will be playing Ruby, a young girl obsessed with Supergirl. Full character breakdowns (via CBR) expand on these roles:

Adrian Pasdar (Heroes, Colony, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) will play the charismatic capitalist Morgan Edge, a ruthless real estate developer who will stop at nothing to get what he wants (and what he feels he deserves). The DC villain’s big plans for National City instantly put him at odds with Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath).

Carl Lumbly (Alias, Southland, The Cure for Wellness) embodies the classic DC character M’yrnn J’onzz, the father of J’onn J’onnz, the Martian Manhunter (David Harewood). A pacifist religious leader on Mars, M’yrn pushes his son in unexpected ways.

Yael Grobglas (Jane the Virgin, Reign) portrays DC character Psi, a psychic villain who uses people’s own minds against them. Psi’s agenda puts her on Supergirl’s radar, and their meeting will affect the Girl of Steel in surprising ways.

Emma Tremblay (Elysium, The Judge, The Giver, Wayward Pines) plays Ruby, a smart, independently minded National City kid who’s fascinated by Supergirl and ends up in jeopardy because of it.

Supergirl Martian Manhunter Origin

This announcement adds two actors who have already been involved in comic book adaptations: Pasdar, who played Glenn Talbot on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Lumbly, who has voiced Martian Manhunter in the animated DC universe. It also adds three characters that will be familiar to comic readers, as M’yrnn J’onzz, Psi and Morgan Edge have all appeared in the pages of DC comics.

While viewers are going to have to wait and see how the show decides to change these characters from their comic origins, Manhunter fans are going to be thrilled to see more of J'onn's history and his connection to other Martians when his father comes into the picture. Morgan may also be a great foil for the earnestly optimistic Kara, and Psi promises to be another interesting villain for the show.
