Between seasons 1 and 2 of Supergirl, the show went through somewhat of a soft reboot as it changed networks from CBS to The CW for the series' sophomore outing. Supergirl season 2 started off strong by introducing Kara Danvers' (Melissa Benoist) super-powered cousin Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin) and has since dealt with the overarching theme of aliens as refugees on Earth - and all the conflicts that arise between aliens and humans. Season 2 also welcomed a new alien to Team Supergirl, the Daxamite Mon-El (Chris Wood), who has grown closer to Kara over the course of the season.

In terms of Supergirl's midseason 2 premiere, fans can look forward to an episode directed by Kevin Smith titled 'Supergirl Lives', which will see the Girl of Steel trapped on a distant planet while fighting against an alien trafficking ring. Now, an extended trailer for the second half of Supergirl season 2 features the return of a season 1 villain as well as the antagonist in The CW's four-show Invasion! crossover event.

The CW released the new trailer [above], which teases the return of - "the one, the only" - Leslie Willis aka Livewire (Britt Morgan). Meanwhile, Kara starts training Mon-El to be a superhero, after he reveals he wants to help her. Additionally, a glimpse of a Dominator can be seen, and James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) becomes more deeply entrenched in his identity as the National City vigilante, Guardian.

Supergirl Season 2.5 Extended Trailer

It was previously teased that Livewire would return to Supergirl in season 2 - along with Metallo and other fan-favorite villains, including the Dominators. 'Supergirl Lives' will see the Girl of Steel facing off against Veronica Sinclair aka Roulette (Dichen Lachman) once again as the human villain is involved in the alien trafficking ring. However, it's unclear which other antagonists will return in the second half of season 2, though certain new villains have been confirmed - specifically, Batman: The Brave and the Bold character Music Meister will act as Kara and Barry Allen's (Grant Gustin) foe in Supergirl and The Flash's two-part musical crossover.

Aside from the villains, this new Supergirl trailer teases more focus on both Mon-El and James Olsen when season 2 returns. Though it's unclear whether Kara will come to accept James' identity as Guardian, a bigger mystery is surrounding Mon-El, particularly in regards to the aliens revealed to be searching for him in the final moments of the midseason finale. Fan speculation points to Mon-El being the prince of Daxam, but it remains to be seen why he's being hunted down, and how that revelation will affect his relationship with Kara.

Still, this new trailer for Supergirl season 2.5 promises plenty of action, more in depth storylines involving aliens, and plenty of villains looking to challenge the Girl of Steel. Now, fans need only wait little more than a week until Supergirl returns with more episodes.
