CBS’ Supergirl TV show – starring Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El/Danvers, the cousin of Superman – started off with a bang when it premiered in 2015, both in terms of its critical reception and ratings. The DC superhero TV series has cooled down a bit in both departments since then, but overall the TV show’s freshman season has been a success – and there are already big things on the horizon for the series when it picks back up next week (at the time of writing this), a couple weeks ahead of its cross-over episode with The CW’s The Flash, titled ‘Worlds Finest’.
‘Worlds Finest’ will officially make Supergirl part of the CW TV universe (make that, multi-verse) that currently includes Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow amongst its ranks, and it’s plausible that Kara will cross paths with other CW/DC superheroes than Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen down the line. That isn’t a given for now, as the Supergirl weekly ratings have dropped enough since its premiere episode to raise some doubt about the possibility of the show getting a season 2 renewal from CBS.
However, we can offer Supergirl fans encouraging news on that front. Per Deadline, CBS CEO Les Moonves has said that of the network’s five new TV series that debuted during the 2015-2016 season, “I believe all five of them will be renewed, and we own four of them.” It’s been pointed out that one of the five CBS shows in question (Angel from Hell) has already been cancelled, so Moonves’ comment isn’t firm confirmation that Supergirl season 2 is a go (yet). Nevertheless, Moonves’ statement certainly points to that happening, in addition to renewals for Supergirl‘s fellow CBS series: Limitless, Code Black, and Life in Pieces.
As for Supergirl season 1 – that will continue next week with the episode ‘Falling’, which you watch a preview for below (followed by the synopsis).
Kara turns on her friends and the citizens of National City after being exposed to Red Kryptonite makes her malicious and dangerous. Also, Cat appears on THE TALK to discuss Supergirl, on Supergirl, Monday, March 14 at 8/7c. The Hosts of CBS Daytime’s “The Talk” guest star.
CBS has also released the official synopsis for the episode ‘Manhunter’, which will air a week after ‘Falling’ and a week before Kara and Barry join forces in ‘Worlds Finest’. Check out the plot summary for ‘Manhunter’, below:
J’onn J’onzz reveals the details of meeting Kara and Alex’s father, Dr. Jeremiah Danvers (Dean Cain), and assuming Hank Henshaw’s identity. Also, Kara debates trusting someone new with her secret identity and Siobhan (Italia Ricci) plots against Kara, on SUPERGIRL, Monday, March 21 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
How will the events of ‘Falling’ and/or ‘Manhunter’ lead into the events of ‘Worlds Finest’? Will Supergirl indeed land an official season 2 order from CBS? Keep watching season 1 to find out!
