The impending Supergirl finale is set to be the series' biggest episode yet. Things have never looked bleaker on Supergirl. Rhea tricked Lena Luthor into helping her open a portal and bring hundreds of Daxamite ships to Earth, declaring that the planet is now New Daxam. On top of that, Cadmus and Lillian Luthor are still somewhere out there and - unknown to Supergirl - Zod is on his way and the President is secretly an alien. It looks like it all might be more than Supergirl and the DEO can handle.

Luckily, help is on the way. Superman and Cat Grant will be showing up to help out, and it looks like Lillian Luthor and Cadmus will be teaming up with the good guys - for now - to protect the planet from the very thing they have always feared. This won't just be a battle against a handful of powerful bad guys to protect National City. This is an all out war for the planet.

And according to what executive producer Andrew Kreisberg told EW, the size and scope of the two-part finale will reflect that:

“There’s multiple showdowns coming up. These are some of our biggest episodes we’ve ever done. The finale is probably the biggest episode we’ve ever done. We saved a bunch of money to pay for more visual effects and actually added another day to the schedule so we could make it as big as possible, and yet it also has multiple get-your-Kleenex scenes. We’re really excited about it. We’re all blown away.”

Multiple showdowns might refer to Cadmus, as well as Zod and the Daxamites; while they will be working together to protect the planet, that does not make them all friends. In fact, since Cadmus was formed specifically to protect the planet from aliens, they might feel even more justified than before. After all, Rhea's invasion is proving them right - at least to a point - and once the Daxamite threat is neutralized Lillian Luthor will probably want to do whatever she can to make sure it never happens again - with any alien species.

Kreisberg also spoke about Zod being one of Superman's most iconic villains. It's not clear yet what Zod's plan is or what he will be doing, but Superman returning to National City at the same time the General shows up is certainly promising.

Although Superman is not only there to fight. According to Kreisberg, Kara will need both her cousin and former mentor Cat Grant to help her "desperately because she’s faced with some truly awful decisions to make in the finale." Superman is a far more experienced hero than Supergirl, though he and she have different ways of doing things sometimes. And Cat has always been ready to help both Kara and Supergirl with free advice and harsh truths. It's sure to be an epic end.

Supergirl continues Monday May 15 with ‘Resist’ at 8pm on The CW.
