Up until recently, The CW had three DC Comics television series in the network's lineup that included Arrow, its first spinoff The Flash, and the more recently established Legends of Tomorrow. However, after the conclusion of the first season of Supergirl on CBS, negotiations began to move Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) and the rest of National City to The CW - which CBS co-owns with Warner Bros. TV.

Although the move has been officially announced - with Supergirl scheduled to air on Mondays this fall - The CW is still finalizing the details of how the change of networks will affect the series. For instance, production will move from Los Angeles, California to Vancouver, Canada, where the rest of The CW's superhero lineup is filmed. Now, it seems unclear if the move will impact the main cast of Supergirl as well.

In a conference call with press, including The Wrap, CW president Mark Pedowitz was unable to confirm whether Calista Flockhart, who plays Kara's mentor and boss Cat Grant, will return for season 2. Rather, Pedowitz said discussions with that actress "are ongoing" since she is based in LA, and stated, "We're happy to have her in whatever capacity is worked out."

Supergirl Myriad Kara Cat Lord

Certainly, many fans hope that The CW and the producers of Supergirl can work something out with Flockhart since her character became a central focus of the show's first season due to her relationship with both Kara and the Girl of Steel. Cat acted as a mentor to Kara as well as her alter-ego of Supergirl, giving advice that Kara applied to her career at CatCo. in addition to her superhero antics. Given how central this particular dynamic is to Supergirl, it would be a shame to see it diminished or eliminated in season 2

That being said, in terms of Pedowitz's comment that discussions are still ongoing with Flockhart, it may be that the actress's role is altered to accommodate for her staying LA-based or her contract is renegotiated for a higher salary in order to justify her move to Vancouver. But, Pedowitz seems to be remaining positive on Flockhart's return as Cat Grant, and fans may have some hope that the actress will return in some form in Supergirl season 2 - whether that means a smaller role or something else remains to be seen.
