After all that she has overcome since taking the gig as National City's local protector, Kara (Melissa Benoist) will really start to feel the complications of her identity in season 3 of Supergirl. Poised for its third outing set to roll out in a little bit over a month, The CW series has been able to infuse several superhero tropes with Kara's day-to-day life as a normal working girl at CatCo. That said, it was not easy to juggle her public life with that of her other persona, and most times she had to compromise for the greater good. This specific plot point will be further explored in the new installment of the show.

The end of Supergirl season 2 might have been a success for most with the looming threat effectively defeated, but it came with some huge personal sacrifices for Kara starting with her heartbreaking separation from Mon-El (Chris Wood). And while the Kryptonian is not necessarily new to hardship, this one seemed to push her off of the edge.

Speaking to CBR during last month's San Diego Comic-Con, Benoist teased a bit on the narrative arc that her character, especially Kara's inner conflict about being a human and an alien at the same time, will be treading in season 3:

Supergirl Ace Reporter Jack Spheer Lena Luthor Kara Danvers

“It’s a couple months past where we left off. When we pick up in Season 3, Kara has very much dedicated herself to Supergirl, and I don’t think she really wants to address what happened for Kara Danvers personally, because that was such a massive heartbreak for her. So the balance is a little off-kilter right now, and this season I think we’re really going to explore her identity. She’s really questioning whether she’s a human or an alien and which she wants to be.”

Unfortunately for Kara, she doesn't have all the time in the world to wallow in her sorrows and take a breather. The end of season 2 teased another pod descending to Earth, and that remain a big mystery.

Despite the seemingly gloomy kick-start to season 3 for Kara, Supergirl will also delve into some other character sub plots like Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie Sawyer's (Floriana Lima) love affair. Additionally, Mon-El will eventually return to the fold with his current whereabouts said to be an integral part of this upcoming outing's narrative.
