Supergirl showrunner Andrew Kreisberg discusses the possibility of seeing Mon-El (Chris Wood) suit up like his comic book counterpart. With only two episodes left of Supergirl's second season, fans are gearing up for the big final showdown between Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and Rhea (Teri Hatcher). It's going to be more than a simple battle between good and evil, though, as Rhea isn't just any villain, but Mon-El's mother. She's been causing trouble since she first showed up on Earth to try to bring the Prince of Daxam home, but now that she's conned Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath) into helping her bring a battle fleet to the planet, things are going to get intense.

Thanks to Rhea's obsession with taking her son with her, and Mon-El's focus on personal development and sacrifice this season, many fans are wondering if this showdown will end in Mon-El's death. However, new comments from Supergirl's showrunner suggest that Mon-El will live a little longer, and may even suit up in the future.

Talking to TVLine, showrunner Andrew Kreisberg was asked if Supergirl's super-powered boyfriend would be joining her as a costumed hero on the show, and his reply hints that Supergirl hasn't seen the last of Mon-El quite yet.

I can’t say right now, but I wouldn’t be surprised if one day you got to see that.

Supergirl We Can Be Heroes Kara Mon-El DEO

Thus far, Mon-El has done a little bit of crime-fighting alongside Kara, but he hasn't got himself a super-suit, code-name, or any of the other trappings of a superhero. He has trained with the DEO and does get involved in missions, but he also works at the alien bar as a bartender, and refers to himself only jokingly as "the other Superman," rather than by a name of his own.

Given that Mon-El does actually have superpowers, it's been something of a surprise that the character hasn't suited up before now. However, if the plan is to kill him off at the end of the season, it would make sense not to waste time establishing him as a hero. It's also possible that the writers have avoided turning Mon-El into a full-blown superhero in order to keep the focus on Supergirl herself. If he sticks around for another season, though, it seems inevitable that he'll get some kind of costume for his work with Kara.

Kreisberg's comments definitely suggest that Mon-El will be around for some time, as "one day" points to a time in the far future, not in the next two episodes. Of course, this could just be a vague non-answer from the showrunner, and so shouldn't be taken as official confirmation that Mon-El will survive or suit up. He could even leave with Rhea after the finale, and return with a suit on... and a villainous plan! With only two weeks to go till the finale, we don't have too long to wait to find out Mon-El's season 2 fate.
