[SPOILERS for those not caught up on Supergirl ahead.]

-

Supergirl recently joined The CW line-up of DC Comics shows that make-up the Arrowverse, including The Flash, DC's Legends of Tomorrow and, of course, Arrow. Supergirl started its run on CBS, but was switched over to The CW in an unprecedented move for the second season of the series.

Supergirl tries to give fans of Superman lore plenty of easter eggs to enjoy and one of the big ones has been including Dean Cain in a recurring role as Jeremiah Danvers, Supergirl, aka Kara's (Melissa Benoist), adopted father, since the very first episode. A new video promo for the upcoming episode "Homecoming" has revealed that Cain is about to make his way back to the series yet again. Superman fans will remember Dean Cain as Kal-El himself in the 1990s Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman series. Cain's portrayl as Superman is still a fan-favorite and has cemented him with a place in the Superman television universe to this day.

The highly anticipated return of Jeremiah Danvers to Supergirl comes amidst his apparent resuce from Cadmus. Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Kara are both so happy to see their father that they may be blinded to some concerns that are raised by Mon-El (Chris Wood). The last time that Kara and Mon-El saw Jeremiah he had helped them escape a hidden Cadmus facility, but he stayed behind. Mon-El doesn't appear to trust Jeremiah upon his return, continuing to play upon one of the major themes of season two of the show.

Dean Cain Returning to Supergirl CW

Cadmus has taken to experimenting on people, as Cyborg and Metallo found out the hard way. Its entirely possible that Jeremiah has been altered or twisted in some way by Cadmus, in order to infiltrate Supergirl's inner circle. There would be no greater way for Cadmus to infiltrate Supergirl's inner-circle than to take control of Kara and Alex's beloved father. It wasn't that far back that the girls presumed their father was dead, but they soon learned that Cadmus actually had him held and he was alive. Mon-El has his suspicions and is going to question Jeremiah, a move that will no doubt upset the Danvers girls and probably ruin their family celebration dinner. Whatever comes of this new revelation, the potential fallout could easily shape the remainder of the second season.

Cain has made four previous appearances on Supergirl. This isn't the first time that Superman fans have seen Dean Cain brought-in to a series. Smallville did the same when they gave him the role of Dr. Curtis Knox for the season seven episode "Alien". This one-off appearance saw Cain portray a twisted doctor that was trying to harvest body parts from meteor freaks infected with Kryptonite, in order to give his wife immortality. Cain's character would be brought back again, but in comic book form. Cain isn't the only Lois & Clark alumni to appear on Supergirl, either. Teri Hatcher, who played Lois in the series, is set to join the show as an as of yet unannounced villain.
