As far as Kirk's "Man" comment - Anyone remember doc McCoy in TWOK? I do remember him saying, "Good God, Man!" So it is no stretch.

As far as the Enterprise being built on Earth. - Are you sure that was Earth? In the future, Mars is Terraformed no? The Mars desert may look like Earth. We should wait and see. ;)

Personal Note -- I am soooo pumped for this film I can barely contain myself!!! lol

Here Here!!!

Or having a Kindergarten in the middle of the Space Naval Fleet's Flag-Battleship???? Like some sort ofNorthern California-Oregon New Age Tantric commune. I guess ramming that section of the ship (Where the kindergarten would be) into the Shinzon ship in Nemisis (WITHOUT EVACUATING THE SHIP FIRST!!) took care of the shortage of chocolate milk. Pure Hippie Utopian poo.
LAME!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Vicster, I like the cut of your jib and I love the site. Wondering if you ever get updates from Criterion regarding their upcoming releases.

Yeah, I never liked Picard's leadership by committee. Like he was incapable of making a decision on his own or just wanted to validate the self-esteem of his bridge crew by asking them for their opinion.

Give me Kirk any day.

Too Abercrombie for me. Seems we are in for a Bay-esque Trek. Still looking forward to it. Popcorn Trek is still better than the last 20 yrs of Next Gen, banal, pseudo-intellectial, pretentious, Berkley-Left wing Trek (except DS9 which was great)

I dont have a link but TrekMovie has an analysis of the ad which includes a very spoiler specific explanation of what is now being called the skydiving scene .
You can go to TrekMovie and see what thats about .
Its very important to the plot .
They believe the "Woo Hoo" line was not spoken by one of the main characters.

The only thing I could think of that had skydiving was a Voyager episode. Can't remember the title, but it was at the beginning of the episode when Torres was doing it in the holodeck. It was the one where she kept turning of the safety protocols.

I can't say where I heard it ( I'm getting old and some things don't stick to the gray matter so well any more), but it was mentioned that the transporters were going to have the sort of newness experienced in 'Enterprise' on TV. I am hoping that is the case but it still leaves the transporter to come to rescue in a pinch. Something I never really liked about the device because it couldn't do almost the same thing in different episodes (especially for TNG)

Another thing Tim, with this new beginning some of those holes may get plugged up once and for all. For that to happen though this movie will need to stand alone as the defining word on Star Trek, a reimagining (oops! Did I just say that BAD word?) if you will! ;)

Oops, transporter malfunction. How many times has that been a driving element?

I don't know, it's hard to justify anything in Trek, and so easy to pick holes in anything. Why bother?

@ andrew,

It's a long running part of Trek because it was part of a deleted scene...? I've never seen it in the episodes of all the series' I watched or the movies - But that still doesn't touch on my point that I personally think it looks stupid and the fact that THEY think it's so awesome that it's in every Trek trailer as a highlight marketing point REALLY worries me.

The folk I was with when we saw this said the movie looks stupid because of that so that was a little depressing. I don't agree with them entirely because I really want to see this flick but that scene looks unattractive to me as well.

There's only 2 hours to tell this story that will hopefully rekindle the Trek franchise - I don't want a portion of that wasted on Skydiving which really has no place in Trek movies in my opinion - whether it's a minor point or not.

What do you guys think of that scene?

The guy in the red suit is supposed to be Chief Engineer Olsen. I don't think he makes it to the original series. Hmm.

I do my own analysis off of the HD downloadable ones on ITunes. I watch its through a few times, then I do slow and stop motion on them to try to get a better look. Here's what I saw:

Kirk's bar fight scene followed by the speech he gets from Captain Pike. Then a shot of a very futuristic San Francisco followed by introduction between Kirk and McCoy; (I'm getting a very good vibe from Karl Urban as Bones.) Next, Ice planet scene with monster, then a new shot of the Enterprise with I though looked real good. Then some shots of Nero trying to drill into San Fancisco bay. And finally, the orbital skydiving.

Final opinion; this is going to be a fast paced, yet deep story that I am drooling over every time there is new footage. This will be great and I accept it as a Star Trek movie.

I'm excited about this film and I LOVED the trailers. I think that it's about time that Trek has gotten a shot in the arm and some of it stoicism removed. Don't get me wrong, I am a HUGE Trek fan, but sometimes the shows (and films) were a little dry. It's no coincidence that alot of my favorite Trek is the episodes with the most action. I will most likely be seeing this in IMAX on opening night. It'll be worth the extra drive and cash to see it.

It seem to me at the point when Kirk says "man" is at a point when he is being recruited by Pike who probably knows him in some way outside of Starfleet.

What I'm getting from the trailers (this one and the previous one) is that a large part of the movie will be character development, albeit at a frantic pace. Which as many have pointed out may be what it takes to bring Star Trek into the 21st century. A reintroduction (or redefining) of the characters and the Trek universe for a new audience.

I'm not saying I'm crazy about this, but as a Trekkie I just want to see Star Trek at the movies again and something new for Trek, such as modern movie making styles and techniques may turn out to be a good thing (hopefully).

This is the best kind of trailer, one that makes you think 'what the heck was that' and 'why are they doing this'! Gets you interested and makes you want to see the movie, at least it does me!

I am curious who is in the red sky diving suit? Will the curse of the Red Shirt live on? :)

What I’m getting from the trailers (this one and the previous one) is that a large part of the movie will be character development, albeit at a frantic pace. Which as many have pointed out may be what it takes to bring Star Trek into the 21st century. A reintroduction (or redefining) of the characters and the Trek universe for a new audience.

"OR they are keeping the plot hidden so it’s more suspenseful when you watch it…

I hate it when a trailer shows so much of the plot that you have so much time before the movie comes out to figure out how it would end…

This way, you can’t figure out the end because you don’t even know what it is"

You mean it not going to end with Vulcan being save, kirk declared a hero, the bad guy loosing and dyeing/sent back to his time with spock, theirs memories of what Romulans look like made to disappear by someone from the future to get the future time line back on track. I mean even I know that going to happen in the end. It not hard really, unless JJ truly going mess up the time line an destroy Vulcan and make Kirk failure/anti hero.

Demon_Shade, Kirk is actually the third captain of the Enterprise, the first was Robert T. April, then it was Pike and then it was Kirk. Spock was first officer from pike days.

As to the trailer, seeing the Enterprise built on earth still make me sick.
The sky diving is nothing special either, was done in a ep of voyager.

As to the rest of the trailer, it going to age real bad, just like the transformer movie has. The lines sound just bad now instead of funny.
As to the use of man does not really sound professional now does it and I doubt it would allowed to be used or tolerated in starfleet.
