New Super 8 Editing Room Super 8 Easter Egg Reveals Lost Footage

Last week saw the release of the full length trailer, and official synopsis, for director J.J. Abrams’ new science-fiction, coming-of-age story Super 8. Ever a lover of a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma, Abrams would likely keep us all in the metaphorical dark until such time as the theater light’s dim into literal dark on the opening night of his film.

The marketing team at Paramount Pictures, however, was likely less than enthused about the idea of running a campaign that provides zero clarification to an audience. Though little has been revealed about the “monster” itself (some of us do speculate that given the tone of, and music in, the trailer that the creature is less a monster, and more a lost being) Abrams has had to agree to several traditional marketing releases. The good news is, he has been able to content himself, and titillate his fans, with his own brand of teases.

Thanks to our freinds at CinemaBlend we have the location of one of Abram’s infamous Easter eggs. At the conclusion of the full length trailer there is a url in the camera lens that leads fans to the s8editingroom.com, a portion of the film’s official site. Once there, you will find options to play some “archival” footage which consists mostly of “missing” clips with intermittent incomplete scenes. The scenes reveal a group of scientists referring to the “craft” and “biology” of what we assume is the space creature in the film. The footage has a feel and look that is strikingly similar to The Dharma Initiative videos in Abrams’ seminal television series Lost. Take a look and let us know if you find any other hints and teasers HERE.

If you have not yet seen it (or simply wish to revisit it, and check for additional hidden Easter eggs and treats) take a look at the trailer and synopsis below:

In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth — something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.

Super 8 lands in theatres on June 10th.

  1. Wow it’s fantastic.. That site(http://www.super8-movie.com/editingroom.html) was really really awesome.. This movie makes me more and more excited.. Hope it lives up to the hype:):)

  2. I love viral marketing; I enjoyed snooping around with Cloverfield’s viral marketing. Made the film all more interesting.

  3. Looks like aliens were being transported. I’m wondering if it’s the original E.T. storyline where there was 3 aliens. 1 good. 2 bad.

  4. http://www.impawards.com/2011/super_eight.html

    :D :D :D Poster looks good

  5. I like the look of this film, but I can’t get ‘super’ excited about it at all. JJ Abrams did the impossible and made Star Trek brilliant again but I havent enjoyed anything else he has done, hated Lost, Alias was rubbish and MI:III was poor.

    • Yeah see , Love his work , loved most of Lost, felt he copped out at the end but thats IMO, Alias was a great show, MI:3 was pretty good I enjoyed it , I was less impressed by Cruise in 3 but makes for a decent action flick, but seemingly generic in feel mixed with all the other spy movies at that time. That said, Im not thrilled by this, I dont want a nice feel good movie, with a little lost alien, I want killer aliens that are pissed that they have been held by the government and they want body parts to fuel their ship to get home.

      • by the way I hated ET, talk about a crap filled experience , it like one of Speilbergs worst movie, ok not his worst but close. The movie isnt even watchable.

      • Abrams’ had nothing to do with the ending/last season of Lost. He didn’t really have much to do with Lost after the first season.

  6. that cube was in the trailer. hmmm not much to the website though

  7. This movie is going to suck. I hate the build up. It’s going to suck like Cloverfield all over again.

  8. Well I couldn’t really find anything on the site
I don’t understand the article regarding this film
It was the same clip repeated
Did any body find more easter eggs???

  9. If you see the new trailer released, towards the end there is a part on the reel being shown where it says “CLICK HERE” in red letters if you can pause it at the right moment. I don’t know what it means and couldn’t figure anything out since the trailer isn’t interactive. I wonder what it could be…

  10. Alice’s dad was wearing a LOST necklace
