  1. Hey, shouldnt RED 2 be on the list?

    • It’s a most-anticipated poll – we rolled that into a Summer Preview conversation but we didn’t have time to discuss every film unfortunately.

  2. I’m with kofi. I’m calling man of steel as te biggest summer movie for sure. Iron man and Star Trek will be very close. Depends on how iron man delivers an if its super quality cuz that’s gonna draw in the avenger crowd like Ben said. And also fast 6 is gonna have a huge run I’m guessing. But I think iron man will have a strong opener obviously cuz my theater already has shows sold out and I’m in a fairly large town in CA. BUT I just hope iron man is a strong story and I’m sure it will deliver but I Star Trek is gonna be real close to that and man of steel is gonna beat out both. I think for animation despicable me 2 and monsters U will perform but I think monsters will be a weak pixar film I think which is a shame cuz the first one was fantastic.

Question for you guys Ben rob kofi and Anthony hae you guys been playing injustice? What do u think of it? Game rant review was great btw.

Ps- could we get Vic on the iron man 3 podcast?

    • I have been playing Injustice – and like it too. Definitely fun for DC fans with, unsurprisingly, solid fighting game mechanics! Story is a little goofy at times but I did enjoy it.

I’ll talk to Vic about the Iron Man 3 podcast for sure. It’s been awhile since we’ve had him on – and he’s a HUGE fan.

      • Yeah I’m not a fighter gamer but I’m enjoying it a lot and slowly learning how to play competitive online but I’m enjoying it. Story was fun and goofy at times but enjoyable. I’m still saying I would like to see a Henry Cavill man of steel skin lol

Yeah you guys are fantastic and always give quality fun conversations but Vic is such a huge fanboy on iron man that it makes it funnier to listen too lol

  3. According to Kofi, Star Trek Into Darkness is going to be the biggest with 1.2-1.3 billion at the box office. I don’t know it’ll hit that high, but I think Trek will be the biggest as well.

    Ep 78, 30-min mark.

That’s where I say the things you’re quoting as well. No love! ;)

    • I can’t believe you went back and found that. Wow!

    • I loved that he did this just to stick it to Kofi…

      • That was before the Man of Steel trailer things have changed.

        • I got you, we were in a Pre-New Man of Steel trailer world…

        • Yeap, so no prediction counts if it changes from trailer to trailer.

I’m sticking with my guns cuz that was the point of the summer preview.

  4. Iron Man 3, Star Trek and Man of Steel are my top 3. Box office wise, I think Iron Man 3 is going to destroy Man of Steel which I think will make enough. The new trailer definitely won a lot of people over but I don’t think Superman is as relevant to our pop culture as he used to be. I believe Marvel has really drowned out DC except Batman. I am concerned about Pacific Rim and The Wolverine. I’m just curious if there are still as many people invested in the X-men film series as there were years ago. First Class probably changed that though. I just don’t get excited for Fox made superhero movies. I just want Marvel to get them back. You guys need to get Vic back on the Star Trek podcast.
    Box Office Battle
    1.Oblivion
    2.Pain and Gain
    3.42
    4.The Croods
    5.The Big Wedding
    10.Jurassic Park 3D

    • Ha! You guys love Vic ;) The Mighty Avenger wants him on for the Iron Man 3 podcast ;)

I think The Wolverine is going to be alright – since Hugh Jackman is such a draw but I am worried about Pacific Rim, especially considering how much it cost to make.

      • While you are at it bring Justin back as well. ;)

  5. Box office battle
    1. Pain and Gain
    2. Oblivion
    3. 42
    4. The croods
    5. The big wedding
    10. Evil dead

  6. Star trek all the way for me.. and then MOS(that looks better and better)…

Everything else will be a surprise for me.. ( JUry is still out on the Iron man.. still gonna watch it though

    • Yeah, I’m sure Iron Man 3 will be enjoyable but I’m curious where it will fall in terms of people’s favorite movies of the summer list. My feeling is that it won’t be on top – even if it makes the most money.

      • Ben, have you heard the spoilers of the ‘twist’ that got spread? If so, what do you think of it?! WITHOUT SPOILERS OF COURSE! lol

        • Nah, we’re going to avoid talking about this until movie releases. It’ll be on the podcast.

  7. 1. Pain and gain
    2. Oblivion
    3. The big wedding
    4. 42
    5. The croods
    10. Evil dead

  8. Man of Steel, Iron Man 3, The Wolverine, and World War Z for me, Iron Man being #1. I might add here that while IM #3 looks pretty good, I broke down and checked out what the BIG TWIST in the movie is, and I do not like that twist at all. In fact, I wish I could grow big like Goliath (Hank Pym, who we need to see in Avengers #2), and kick a few people right in the posteriors for, well, the twist. I will be nice and not specifically rant about it’s details here, but I will just say it will really hit a few viewers right in the solar plexis when they see what it is, kind of like finding doggy-doo in your trick or treat basket when you get home and start to count your candy when you were a kid. C’mon Marvel, the movie otherwise looks pretty fantastic, but you can do better by your loyal fan-boys than (the twist) this!

    • Well at least the twist isn’t like anything we’ve seen in the previous 2 iron man films.

      • It’ll be interesting to see if they pull it off. It’ll be an interesting spoilers conversation when the time comes.

        • It’s definitely going to be a mixed bag. The average moviegoer may like it, but for people really into the comics, I’m sure the majority will hate it, with a few that’ll like it.

  9. Iron Man 3 is my most anticipated.

My problem with MOS is Goyer. I don’t like his writing. Just watch Ghostrider 1+2, Jumper, Blade:Trinity, Nick Fury….. ugh.

I fear for WB/DC if Goyer is going to be in charge of the DC movie universe. I want Snyder to be DC’s Whedon, NOT Goyer!

    • Huh. I thought Goyer wrote only Ghost Rider 2. I thought Mark Steven Johnson both wrote and directed the first one. Whatever, they both sucked.

      • I FORGOT that Goyer wrote that David Hasselhoff Nick Fury movie! Man, just, wow. Mind. Blown.

  10. Im gonna throw my hat into the kofi/ben bet and say that its pikes hand just to be differentbut if not I could see it being kirk.

Pirates 2 is the best, better than 1 & 3. Also there wasnt a love triangle, Jack states that she wants him and shes holding the compass that points to what you desire and it points at him but its actually pointing to the chest they need to help Will but she thinks its pointing at him which confuses her as well. This is then cemented when she handcuffs him and leaves him for dead.

I was a huge fan of archer when it began but season 2 was the high mark for me and season three was okay and Ive missed several eps of season four which means Im dropping off/losing interest and I believe thats from too much use of the same running gags/callbacks and the jumps from a plot to b plot joke word is also wearing out but the biggest complaint is that some character and dialogue is too self aware and winking of the plots and feels written as opposed to say the boondocks/venture bros who feel like characters in there own world even if the plot is whacky its played straight and has a point.

Which begs the question when is boondocks getting a season 4?

Also wish Ben hadnt brought up “that movie” because I was meaning to watch “that movie” and while watching another reviewers video of oblivion I scrolled into the comments and saw a reply that hinted that its the same twist as “that movie” but now I know, ugh sucks for me for putting it off I guess.

    • Agreed. It’s a double-edged sword for sure – because as much as I want to tell people to watch “that movie,” it’s impossible to mention it right now without ruining major story beats for viewers who haven’t seen it.

      • My fault for renting The Cove from redbox in 2009 instead of that movie.

        • The Cove! Man, that film was a kick to the balls, right?

          • My poor dolphins…

    • I absolute love the the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie. I saw it three times in the theater and even more often on DVD, but I never got into Pirates 2 & 3. The perfect balance between a regular pirate movie, fantasy and humour that made the first one so great was replaced by lame gags and CGI spectacle that completely went overboard (pun intended). I never watched Stranger Tides, because I completey lost interest in the franchise. Still love the first one, though. As far as I’m concerned it’s the only PotC movie in existence and the others were just a bad dream. ;)

      • I dont know man I tried to watch it recently on tv and its very simple, and two has my favorite fight between jack, will and norrington on the rolling wheel. But I will say that one of the flaws of the series was that the sequels were too long, especially 3.

    • Boondocks season 4 is supposed to air in 2013.

  11. Haven’t gotten to listen to the podcast yet, but very excited for the 2013 summer movie preview. Really want to hear what you guys are looking forward to most!

I’m pretty skeptical when it comes to summer blockbusters, but after having seen previews for Iron Man 3, Star Trek, Man of Steel, and World War Z I’m more excited than I’ve ever been! You guys are doing a fantastic job with the podcast, I look forward to listening every week, keep up the good work! I’ve listened since the Project X podcast, wasn’t too sure after that lol but very glad I kept listening!

    • Thanks for sticking with us. Yeah, Project X would be an “interesting” one to start with – since we pretty much just yell at each other for 1 hour!

  12. My top 3 anticipated in order films are: Fast 6, Iron Man 3, and Man Of Steel.

I’m with Kofi about the Man of Steel trailer. It didn’t excite me at all. I watched it, and had not one emotion when I was finished with it. Maybe it’s because I’m not that interested in Superman, but I just didn’t get excited.

  13. Man of Steel & Star Trek into Darkness are the movie I’m most excited to see from a story perspective, I definetly think Man of Steel will make close to a Billion considering it is in 3D and having the cache of the Nolan Trilogy I think will help…

Iron Man 3 I think my excitement has died down for me it might be my Prometheus(as Kofi says) and what I mean is I might be expecting something but not getting what I want from a 3rd Iron Man movie..

Fast & Furious 6 is the Popcorn movie of the summer for me at least in terms of shoot em up blow em up…

Oblivion to me was visually amazing the score was one of main things I liked the most and it had a kind of classic sci-fi story with a character that you cared about. Tom Cruise playing Jack Harper was for the betterment of this movie all the way down to the WALL-E scavenger behavior to seeing him unravel this mystery. I might have expected/wanted more action but I think the movie was better for not having an extra obligatory action scene, it made it more of true sci-fi character piece…

  14. 1 – Oblivion
    2 – Pain & Gain
    3 – 42
    4 – The Big Wedding
    5 – The Croods
    10 – Evil Dead

  15. My most anticipated of the summer is Man of Steel, which means bad things for its box office since most people don’t agree with my tastes. American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, The Mindy Project, Whitney, and the Bachelor all still being on the air is the proof of that. Jersey Shore, Honey Boo Boo, and anything Duck related is more proof. Most TV shows I watch survive on the bubble (Fringe, Community, Happy Endings). My wife watches the Voice (she’s part of the problem) and if I think someone sounds decent, they end up going home. So, based on my personal “Bundy” curse, Man of Steel will probably get mediocre box office returns.

The one thing we have going for us is that the Avengers was my most anticipated of last summer…so maybe it broke the curse.

  16. Box Office Battle
    1. Pain and Gain
    2. The Big Wedding
    3. Oblivion
    4. 42
    5. The Croods
    10. Olympus has Fallen

  17. 1.Oblivion
    2.Pain and Gain
    3.42
    4.The Big Wedding
    5.The Croods
    10. Jurassic Park 3D

With all the cheesiness that old TV movie Nick Fury with The Hoff, it was fairly enjoyable it was better than the straight to DVD film adaption Man Thing….But i think DC has great people who love those characters like Bruce Timm …

…” You know what ol’ Jack Burton always says at a time like this? “….

  18. My most anticipated for this summer are Man of Steel, Star Trek, Elysium, and Monsters University a close fourth. I still love the first one and I’m a big Pixar fan.

It will be very interesting to see how Man of Steel performs and if there are any DC references. I saw an article on Comic Book Movie with a quote from Snyder saying that there is, so who knows. Maybe once that film hits we will get some clarity on WB/DC’s future.

  19. 1. Pain and Gain
    2. Oblivion
    3. 42
    4. The Croods
    5. The big Wedding
    10. Evil Dead

  20. Kofi can we see your rating score sheet post it chart for movies. I’m dying to know what “value” (for a lack of better words) they translate to.

    • Henry,

We’re actually going to be adding the breakdown as a fully-integrated site feature in the not-too-distant future!

  21. 1 – Oblivion
    2 – Pain & Gain
    3 – 42
    4 – The Big Wedding
    5 – The Croods
    10 – Olympus Has Fallen

  22. I’m going to see Pacific Rim and I agree with the guy that said that it has the potential to be a success with WOM.

    • Yes! I’m still rooting for that film for sure.

  23. #1 Pain and Gain
    #2 Oblivion
    #3 The Big Wedding
    #4 42
    #5 The Croods
    #10 Evil Dead

  24. 1-Pain and Gain
    2-Oblivion
    3-42
    4-The Big Wedding
    5-The Croods

    10- Scary Movie 5

  25. Still think you should bring back Roth Cornet for the Iron Man 3 podcast or another guest spot (even though she works for a competitor)

    • Yeah, we’re planning on having Roth back on. The podcast is a fun opportunity to get SR people on but we love Roth – so it’ll happen for sure.

  26. Good podcast episode! I’m happy to see a positive discussion on Oblivion for a change :)

Also, happy belated birthday, Ben. Our birthdays are two days apart!

    • Thanks! Happy B-Day to you then!

  27. Thinking about all the movies I am excited to go see this summer is bumming me out. I have been spoiled. I have been staying in Mexico and the cinemas here treat me too well but now I have to go back to Canada for the summer, where the tickets are what $10 now? I just saw Iron Man 3 in 3d on a top notch screen with excellent sound and reserved numbered seating for less the 3 bucks. Cinepolis, I am going to miss you, especially during summer time.

    • That’s really interesting. Not that I assume Mexico theaters aren’t good but that’s interesting there’s such a disparity.

  28. Archer is a damn good show. I love it.

  29. Archer is a Great show. I love it.
