Jenny Han's The Summer I Turned Pretty has been renewed for a season 2 ahead of its season 1 premiere. Based on the novel of the same name written by Han in 2009, the romantic coming-of-age drama is set to hit Amazon Prime Video on June 17, 2022. Han is best known for authoring To All The Boys, later developed into multiple Netflix-exclusive films, including the 2018 hit To All the Boys I've Loved Before. Lionsgate previously optioned the rights to The Summer I Turned Pretty TV adaptation in 2013, but Amazon would eventually be the company to give the series' production order in 2021.

Ahead of the release of season 1, Amazon has officially ordered The Summer I Turned Pretty season 2. Han states that she had always intended for The Summer I Turned Pretty TV adaptation to be a multi-season series and that she is thankful for Amazon Studios' vote of confidence in her work. Vernon Sanders, head of global television at Amazon Studios, proudly announced the renewal of the series, saying the following:

“As fans anticipate the beach fun and young romance in the upcoming first season, we’re excited to announce more summer to come with a second season of ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty'. We look forward to our Prime Video customers returning to Cousins Beach with Jenny Han and her characters as they continue their coming-of-age journeys for another season.”

With three books in the original The Summer I Turned Pretty series, it's understandable that Han would be vying for multiple seasons of the television adaptation. With a trilogy-worth of plot to get through, seven episodes in a single season leave so much source material uncovered. The renewal of the series before its debut demonstrates the confidence Amazon has in The Summer I Turned Pretty's potential success. Plus, if Jenny Han's success with To All the Boys I've Loved Before is any indication, her debut into the world of television will certainly be something to watch out for. The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 1 debuts on Amazon Prime Video on June 17, 2022.
