The DC Extended Universe has two titles lined up for this year: Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad. These two films will continue the expansion of this shared universe that started with Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel.
Dawn of Justice will introduce audiences to a new Batman (played by Ben Affleck), Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg), and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot). On the other hand, Suicide Squad will present the “worst heroes ever,” with a line-up that includes fan favorite antiheroes Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Rick Flag, Boomerang, Enchantress, Killer Croc, El Diablo, Katana, and a new Joker. The film won’t be released until August, but Warner Bros. and DC have already started their marketing campaign, revealing new lines of toys at the New York Toy Fair.
DC Entertainment, Warner Bros., and Funko teamed up to bring a variety of toys inspired by the upcoming antihero film Suicide Squad. These figures were presented at the New York Toy Fair, with different lines of toys for every taste: from realistic collectibles, to the regular Funko POP figures.
First, a treat for DC collectors. These realistic figures of the squad don’t miss a single detail on any of the characters, but most importantly, it gives fans a better look at how the characters will be depicted in the upcoming film. The Joker figure is impressive for the remarkable similarity it bears toward Jared Leto’s still-controversial depiction of the Clown Prince of Crime, while Killer Croc is seen to come with two different heads, so he can be displayed wearing his hoodie or with his crocodile likeness on full display. Either way, these detailed figures are all very nice looking.
The line of Funko Fabrikations Plush figures includes Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, Katana, the Joker (tattoos included, of course), and an unmasked Deadshot. The mini figures feature the whole team with their signature weapons, though Deadshot is once more unmasked and without the cybernetic eye. This line is also quite detailed, with Katana and Boomerang’s scars included, and it also includes another version of Harley Quinn, wearing the gold dress we was seen wearing in the first trailer.
For those looking for toys more on the adorable and cute side, Funko’s Dorbz line has Harley Quinn (baseball bat included), the Joker, Enchantress, and a masked Deadshot for you. Last but not least, the regular Funko POP figures include Diablo, Killer Croc, Boomerang (with his boomerang), Rick Flag, Katana, Harley Quinn, grinning Joker, masked Deadshot, and unmaksed Deadshot, both with his sniper rifle. All these will be released in May, a few months ahead the release of the movie.
As you can see, DC is paying extra attention to Harley Quinn, the Joker, and Deadshot, being the only characters featured in all five of these toy lines. If your favorite squad member is not included in the Funko line of your preference, there’s a fair chance that it will be included once the movie is released, depending on the reaction of the audience to the rest of the characters.
