The "Roll Call" trailer for James Gunn's The Suicide Squad features one of the things the writer-director is known for: great song choices. Though it doesn't have any actual footage from the upcoming movie, the teaser offers a thrilling first look at the 17 members of the new Task Force X.

Though it does include a handful of returning characters from David Ayer's Suicide Squad, Gunn's movie is said to be more or less a total reboot. After the director was fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 by Disney due to vulgar jokes in some of his older tweets, Gunn was quickly snapped up by Warner Bros. to find a new direction for the Suicide Squad. Though he's since been rehired to complete his Marvel trilogy, Gunn first directed a DC movie that looks to be packed with humor, violence, and colorful characters.

The song in The Suicide Squad's roll call teaser is "Oh No!!!" by Grandson. The singer-songwriter, whose real name is Jordan Edward Benjamin, signed to the Fueled By Ramen label in 2018 but is still relatively little-known. Gunn's carefully selected soundtracks for Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 featured retro hits that, within canon, were lovingly recorded onto mixtapes by Peter Quill's mother. The director has said that The Suicide Squad will also be music-heavy, but that the music choices will be very different to the Guardians movies.

Suicide Squad Roll Call Every Character

Grandson's "Oh No!!!" has particularly fitting lyrics for The Suicide Squad, with the chorus repeating, "The kids don't stand a chance." Gunn has made no secret of the fact that not all (and probably not many) of the Suicide Squad will be left standing by the end of the movie. After all, that's why they're called the Suicide Squad. Hand-selected by the cold and calculating Amanda Waller, Task Force X is a black ops team made up of incarcerated supervillains who are considered expendable. Anyone who survives the mission will get 10 years off their prison sentence. Anyone who declines the mission (or tries to escape) will get their head blown up. The kids really don't stand a chance.

As The Suicide Squad's roll call teaser makes clear, the cast is absolutely stacked with familiar faces: from returning cast members Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Viola Davis and Joel Kinnaman, to newly added stars like John Cena and Idris Elba. The characters they're playing include plenty of deep cuts from DC Comics, including Polka Dot Man, Javelin, and Blackguard - but it remains to be seen how much time we'll have to get to know them.
