Leading up to the hotly anticipated theatrical release of writer/director David Ayer’s Suicide Squad this August, fans of the original DC Comics property have been teased with plenty of exclusive first looks at the next film in the ever expanding DC Extended Universe. In a major motion picture production that will see the cinematic reinvention of original and iconic DC villains such as Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), and The Joker (Jared Leto), the new movie is already receiving generous praise from test screening audiences.
With several spin-off features rumored to be in the works, and a full-fledged sequel tentatively slated for theatrical release in 2018, Suicide Squad could very well become a tentpole property for the newly-revamped DC Films studio. On that note, the latest featurette promoting Ayer’s latest directorial effort offers glimpses of the level of detail and attention paid to his new film’s super-villain characters.
In the video featured above, DC Entertainment offers general audiences and die-hard comic book fans alike a sneak peek behind the curtains of DC Universe: The Exhibit, an exclusive Warner Bros. Studio Tour featuring props and costumes from Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad. Replete with costumes and props from both films, and including an exclusive set piece from Harley Quinn’s actual jail cell from Ayer’s forthcoming motion picture, fans of the DCEU might just want to check out the exhibit for themselves in the near future.
Small details, such as a smiley face etched into The Joker’s straight razor as well as a Joker card taped to the Knightmare Batman’s machine gun, really make the exhibit something for film fans to truly pore over after after seeing the two movies in question for themselves. By the looks of things behind the scenes, Suicide Squad should be in keeping with the overall aesthetic flavor and design of director Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman and pave the way for the continued expansion of the DCEU going forward.
Only time will tell how well received Suicide Squad will be when it finally sees theatrical release later this summer. On that note, here’s to hoping that Ayer’s next entry in the DCEU is one well worth viewers’ time and attention that will result in further success for DC fans the world over.
Suicide Squad will hit theaters on August 5, 2016, followed by Wonder Woman on June 2, 2017; Justice League Part One on November 17, 2017; The Flash on March 16, 2018; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; an untitled DC Film on October 5, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League Part Two on June 14, 2019; an untitled DC film on November 1, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps on July 24, 2020.
