This marks the second film in a row from DC to get an alternate cut attached to the Blu-Ray/DVD/VOD release, and they are hoping to have a similarly favorable response to this one as they did with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Before people are able to see the new cut of the film, which includes an extra 11 minutes of never before seen footage, a new trailer showcasing brand new footage has been released to try and increase excitement for it.
ComingSoon has revealed the new Blu-Ray/DVD trailer for the extended cut of Suicide Squad, which you can watch above. While the first section of the trailer features mainly footage already included in the theatrical cut, the last half will give eager fans a glimpse of some of the new scenes that appear to have been added back into the film.
Most of the new footage revolves around Harley Quinn, which should only further add more screen time for Robbie than before. The longest scene shown included snippets of an encounter between Harley and Joker on a bridge, which is very similar to some of the recently released concept art. In the scene, Harley is standing in the middle of the road prior to her bath in acid, which brings her face to face with a free running Joker. She threatens to kill him by putting a gun to his head, but as any viewer of the film or reader of the comics knows, she could never do that to the man she loves.
If this trailer is any indication as to the focus of the extended cut, those who watch it should see much more of the Harley/Joker dynamic. Given the reaction to Robbie as Harley, the decision to double down on her scenes is a no brainer. In fact, including more scenes of Jared Leto's Joker could also be a smart move, not only because of his polarizing portrayal of the iconic character, but due to Leto's very public statements regarding the studio cutting his scenes.
Suicide Squad will be available on digital November 15, 2016 and Blu-ray December 13, 2016.
