At DC FanDome, The Suicide Squad behind-the-scenes trailer is released. In 2016, David Ayer's Suicide Squad introduced the concept of Task Force X to the DC Extended Universe. Created by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), the taskforce brings together villains and sends them on dangerous missions. A followup of sorts to Ayer's film, The Suicide Squad is directed by James Gunn. It features some returning characters, including Waller, Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney) and the taskforce's leader Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman). The movie also introduces a whole host of new DC characters, but as Gunn warned when he first revealed the full Suicide Squad 2 cast, viewers shouldn't get too attached since the premise of the story necessitates plenty of deaths. Though some, like Harley Quinn, are sure to make it out alive.

Currently, The Suicide Squad is slated for an August 2021 release date, providing it's not delayed - though it shouldn't be since the film has wrapped. Considering The Suicide Squad is the next DCEU film to release after Wonder Woman 1984, it's a no-brainer that the film would have its own panel at DC FanDome, the virtual event put on by DC. Gunn has been hyping the panel since it was officially announced, and confirmed a great deal about The Suicide Squad will be revealed at DC FanDome. Now, as part of the film's panel, Gunn offered a first look at footage from the DC movie.

During the panel at DC FanDome, Gunn released the first Suicide Squad behind-the-scenes trailer, featuring footage from the set of the production. Take a look below.

Although this behind-the-scenes featurette isn't quite a trailer, it does feature plenty of looks at the new and returning characters in The Suicide Squad. Perhaps the most exciting is Harley Quinn and her new costume, which finally taps into the character's classic red-and-black motif, even if it's not the original jester jumpsuit. Instead, the new Harley Quinn costume in The Suicide Squad seems to draw inspiration from various comics versions of the character and put a new spin on it. Aside from Harley, there's also a great deal of focus put on John Cena's Peacemaker, with the actor calling him a "douchey Captain America," which positions him as a major player in the movie. There's also some looks at King Shark as well as Polka Dot Man - with some footage showing off how the latter's power will be realized on screen.

Altogether, there's a ton of footage here, and even if it's not all directly from the movie itself, it does give a good impression of what to expect from Gunn's Suicide Squad. Namely, it appears to be an action-packed, colorful and quirky superhero movie - which is exactly what fans should expect from a filmmaker like Gunn. Certainly, Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy movies are in a separate universe to Suicide Squad, but it's easy to see some shared sensibilities based on this footage. That said, there's also plenty of differences to Gunn's Marvel work, since the director has clearly ensured The Suicide Squad stays true to the spirit of DC Comics. While this BTS trailer may not be a full trailer for The Suicide Squad, it certainly will tide fans over until an official preview can be released in the coming months.
