I like the poster. It’s different and catches the eye – it’s quite clever. The trailer looks good. I’ll wait to se the movie before pronouncing judgement!

I’ve always been told to never judge a book (or movie) by it’s cover but seriously, they could do better. The first time I’ve seen the first film was back on TV in ‘98. THANK GOD!!! I’m SO GLAD I didn’t see it at the theaters.

The poster doesn’t really bother me too much. As far as the film? I think it will appeal to kids/teens more than an adult audience. I’ve played nearly every Street Fighter game produced and i can say i don’t think the films do the games justice. The animated movies were much more entertaining to me. I dont think Chun Li should be a focal point of the movie, although she’s an important character. Chun Li is not the only Street Fighter that Bison affected (Charlie Blanca, Guile, Ryu etc.) I don’t think its fair to just center the movie around Chun Li. Just my opinion.

Good point about little dialogue because of the language thing, never thought of that at the time.

@ Cammy,

As much as it pains me to say it I don’t think the reason Kill Bill did as well as it did was because the action lead was a female. Think about it – do you think it would have dramatically affected the box office if the lead was a male kicking ass? I don’t think so.

Certainly us online movie fans who discuss the industry endlessly can say “it was cool to see a female kick-ass in a lead role” but sadly I don’t think it’s the type of thing that dictates whether the general public head out to see it.

The studio is trying to distance itself from marketing the movie with a female character as the main protagonist. Thus, look at the two male fighters and how the subtitle “Legend of Chun Li” is so tiny. After the disaster of Lara Croft 2, Elektra and Catwoman, and with Wonder Woman in development hell, they probably figure ppl won’t watch a movie with a lead female character. Which sucks bc the movie is supposed to be about Chun Li – it’s even in the title.

What people forget is if u deliver a well written, directed and acted movie with a female heroine, people will come. Look at Kill Bill.

While I wouldn’t disagree that the dialogue in this movie will likely suck, I reckon that the much more likely reason foro the lack of dialogue in the trailer is that the movie is in English and it’s a Japanese trailer…

There’s not a lot of dialogue in a trailer for an action movie at the best of times, but what’s the point in putting in dialogue when a large majority of the audience for the trailer isn’t going to understand it?

Wow, I completely agree. That is one heinous poster. Why is there so much WHITE and why does that guy at the bottom look like His Name Is Earl? Yech.
